Help w/assignment?
Hi folks,
One of my last assignments in my English "American Identity" class is to suggest Readings for future teachings of the course. I think it would be really cool to find a website or article online that talks about the experience of backpacking abroad as an American. None of my articles on my site are "general" enough -- they're all pretty specific to the country I'm visiting.
Anybody know of a good website where someone gets philosophical on the experience of an American traveling abroad?
Any help would be appreciated...

It's not a website but the book "Innocent's Abroad" by Mark Twain delves quite a bit into the psyche of a traveler.

Short story. A lot of our Reading assignments during this course were from websites...typically something resembling a newspaper column about a particular topic, or aspect of American life.
So, if any of you with suggestions can specify certain passages, blog entries, or chapters of published books, that would be great. For xample, Twain's Innocents Abroad is online on several different websites...but Jake is there a particular chapter you think is relevent?
As I said, the class topic is "American Identity" - what it means to be an American...

Dave Sedaris did short stories in "me talk pretty" about his life as an American expat in Paris, I found them funny at the very least as he talks about cultural and linguistic differences between America and France.
