5000 - A look back.
Well as this is going to my 5001th post I thought I would reminisce over my time here at travelpunk and remember who I was when I joined and how so many of you have helped me become something more. About how so many of you are like family to me and I hold several of you dearer than any of my local friends. Travelpunk is more than a website to many of us, it's a rare community of like-minded individuals seeking to better themselves and the world through the dispelling of ignorance by global travel. It's a support network, a living encyclopedia and a family.
After traveling around the country and the western hemisphere, having been to several meetups, I am still amazed by the seemingly instant connection that I share with each and every one of you when we meet face to face. It is remarkable. As travelpunk grows there will continue to be expansion groans and we will continue to grow as a community to accommodate these needs.
Travelpunk, that's for being here. Here's to another 5000.
my first post... 07/27/2004 as JakeThePunk

HELLO TPUNKS!
I just found this site yesterday and as of right now i think it is the single greatest travel forum i have ever seen! Major kudos...
Anyway I am a 20 year old american male leaving for my first backpacking trip on sept 6 to BRAZIL! I will be there till christmas and I have no idea what I am doing. I am mostly sick of working in america and sick of all the crap with elections and whatnot.
Well If you have any ideas on where to go or what to do or if you are going to be in brazil during my stay let me know... I am also a nOOb at this whole backpacking experience so some advice is always appreciated!

Congrats Jake!!!
Though I haven't nearly the activity here that Jake does, I have to say that over the couple years that i've been here, I've found this to be a tremendous community, both in terms of travel advice as well as a really wonderful bunch of people.
When I first came here, I was at war, looking for a cheap way to a couple weeks off in Europe. It developed quickly to become a really great core of friends that helped me get through some tough times (Thanks again KCL, SV and SD). I found some really fantastic people that I am proud to have known, and feel that I'm a better person for the experience (WWM, Jengt, Benna, Jake, Jill and Steve - as well as many more), I've had some tremendous times that wouldn't have happened without this place (can you say 'First Annual T-Punk Campout'?) and a few moments that really made my day (like a drunk-dial from a couple Canadian hotties that I'll leave nameless to protect the <not so> innocent)...
Thanks Tony for creating this place, and thanks to people like you Jake that really are the core of this community and keep it all going for me!

I know what you mean about feeling an instant connection with people when you meet them off the boards. I have felt that way many times at meet ups.
We love you Jake! I hope to spend more time with you in the future!!

Brazilian hookers? I think we need some storytime in the "Evolution of the Jake" thread.
Btw, intercourse with a Sao Paolo whore is probably the sexiest form of Russian Roulette

I remember it like it was yesterday..... the year, was 2004. Jakey was planning a trip to Brazil while i was planning to wait patiently here in North America.
When I got word that my beloved jake was canoodoling with South American pro's my heart was torn apart.
It was just never the same....
