Default Wednesday Report

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to give an another update yesterday. Apparently the hospital has myspace on their block list. For the last few days I’ve been able to bypass it but yesterday evening it wouldn’t let me on. So I’m at a Starbucks right now using their internet which they are charging me for the bastards. Anyway that means I can’t check my myspace.

So here’s the report today. Courtland had another seizure today. Actually he had three. He had two absent seizures and one real one. The reason for these recent ones is because they took him off his drip/IV and put him on pills and lowered the dose. Since the seizures they have kept him on pills but upped his dosage. So we shouldn’t see any more of them. The only good thing about this recent round of seizures is they were giving him an EEG (again) when one happened, so they were able to map it. The seizures are accruing on his left side of the brain.

We spoke to the neurologist and all the culture reports came back negative. He doesn’t have Herpes, West Nile, or Tick Exposure. He does/did have a viral infection called encephalitis. The problem is they don’t know which one because there are so many and most don’t have cures. Plus there is a chance that the virus is gone.

What this means basically is they have no clue what caused the encephalitis. They also said that the virus left its mark (that’s the best way I cold explain it). Basically he is going to have to be on seizure medicine for the rest of his life.

So his mother/father is making plans for him to go to Birmingham as soon as he is discharged. They have the one of the best seizure facilities and hopefully can go beyond what the doctors here found and find out what is causing the seizures. Hopefully.

Anyway the doctor did say that his short term memory would eventually come back. I’m just hoping that we can get past the part of where every time he wakes up we have to start from scrath and let him know what is going on, where he is, and how he got here.

He should be discharge tomorrow is he can go through the night and the morning without a seizure. From there I ‘m not sure what is going to happen. His mother is is suppose to catch a plane on Friday but I don’t know if that will happen.

Right now nothing is finalized and a lot of things are up in the air. This really has been one of the worst weeks of my life. And now I have to make a major decision. If I’m to follow him to Birmingham I have a lot to do such as get the money up and tie up loose ends and possibly find a place to live. I really need a really strong drink right now.

I’ll hopefully be able to let you guys know what is up tomorrow. It just might be some time. If you usually reach me through myspace and need to get a hold of me email me at gembaby83 at hotmail.com. I can check that and get back to you.

Take care everyone and keep praying

Sarah

Jake- I need to talk to you before you get ahold of Ron about Guam please. Email me or tell me when you will be on instant messenger. Or you can call just not too late. Thanks

Sarah--

I edited your post to remove the email link, since there are spambots that'll search sites for emails. Hope you don't mind, I'd hate to see you get a shitload of spam.

Hang in there, you're amazingly strong and Court's lucky to have you by his side.

I did a bit of research on encephalitis. It is simply:
Quote:
an acute inflammation of the brain, commonly caused by a viral infection. Sometimes, encephalitis can result from a bacterial infection, such as bacterial meningitis, or it may be a complication of other infectious diseases like rabies (viral) or syphilis (bacterial). Certain parasitic protozoal infestations, like by toxoplasma or Naegleria fowleri, can also cause encephalitis in people with compromised immune systems.
So, it's typically caused by viruses, but could really be any pathogen. Since ticks do seem to have been associated in this case, I would still get checked out for Lyme disease (if you haven't already).
Quote:
Encephalitis can be a complication of Lyme disease transmitted by ticks, or of rabies spread by rabid animals.
Anyhow, at least it sounds like you are on the mend. Really sux when life bites you out of the blue! But hope things smooth out soon, guys!

I’m in Stillwater right now. I just got done moving a good portion of my stuff to my mom’s house. I have about two carloads left. One I’m going to take with me and drop off on my way back to Tulsa and the other I will come and get on Saturday.

I really don’t like leaving Courtland for so long while he is in the hospital, but I know his mother is with him and I should be home before morning. Hopefully tomorrow he will be discharged. The only reason he wasn’t today is because he was extremely disoriented and he ripped his IV out in the middle of the night.

The doctors say it will be awhile before he gets his memory back. He did have physical therapists come in today and help him walk. Besides being a bit wobbly he did great. Sill not sure the arrangements for him getting home.

I cant really think of anything else to say so I’ll finish with Thank you guys for all your support and help. This really is an amazing community given the fact that I have only met Court and he's only met a few people. I'm so happy I found Travelpunk! You guys have been really nice and wonderful and I really appreciate it.

Courtland really is lucky to have so many people care for him.

Sarah

In case you guys are wondering his speak and writing skills are a bit imparied. That's one of the effects from the seizures.

Default Saturday Report

Hey Guys. Sorry about no update on Friday. I was at the hospital all day with Court and then I had to go to my parent's and Stillwater to finish moving. I was so exhausted that I just crashed. Right now I'm at the 'rents trying to check all my stuff on dial up internet. As soon as I'm done with this I will be heading back to hospital in Tulsa. There are a few people who I need to email. Give me a day or so I'll get back to you.

We were hoping Court would be released yesterday or today but that doesn't look like it will happen. Thursday after I left for home to pack he had another absent seizure. It didn't last but ten seconds. Hopefully that will be the last one since they have him on three daily seizure meds. Anyway after the seizure they gave him something (I forget what it's called) that you give someone right after a seizure. It is suppose to calm them down and prevent seizures from happening for 8-10 hours.

Well it had the opposite on him. Since Thursday night he has been hullicinating and acting manic. One moment he will be himself then he gets really hyper and happy then he starts seeing things then he crashes and gets depressed and doesn't remember anything. This could be because of the seizure medications, the seizures, the fact that they just took him off of three medications he didn't need anymore (kidney meds, meds for the tick exposure, and meds for the herpes virus) or it could be a combination of all three. So he really isn't himself. We've been trying to monitor him when he is on his computer, but if he gets on AIM or any other website and posts remember he's not all there at the moment.

I don't know what his mom is going to do in moving him home. He can't be on all three meds forever. They have to get his seizures under control then they can start figuring out what combinations to give him. Plus if he really has a virus like they say that could be a while before it gets out of his system.

Things are just confusing. Please keep praying. Thanks for everything guys.

Sarah
