Spirituality and Travel
Whatever, call me a hippie for this, but does anyone travel and explore for spiritual reasons?
I ask because of a conversation my brother and I just had, it wasn't necessarily a positive one. Basically, he said I should visit him in Washington so that we can go up to the mountains and reconnect, and additionally to put things back into place, where they should be in our lives.
This is of course up to the individual, though I was curious about how you folks view that kind of thing, IE: Setting out for a difficult wilderness hike to look at yourself and your life earnestly, and to reconnect with yourself in a spiritual fashion.

oh yeah man. I can totally relate. I don't always travel for spiritual reasons I would rather say that knowing myself better is a by-product of travelling.

Yeah me too, I think this is part of the reason why I want to see SE Asia so badly -- I want to see the temples and connect on a spiritual level

I think travel and spirituality go hand-in-hand for the most part. I've never had a trip where there wasn't a moment of 'realization' - or a moment where I felt connected or 'right' if that makes any sense.
I'm not big on any organized religions or beliefs but travel seems to do it for me. Whatever 'it' is.

Yes, yes I agree with you - Every time I travel I feel a connection with myself that feels spiritual in some way. I think it's because when I'm traveling, I'm much more 'in the moment' so to speak and way more connected to the places I go and the people I meet. Remembering my travels helps me in my everyday life because I make more of an effort to be present and not just shuffle through the day. It's like I need to travel to keep centered.

You could say I travel for "spiritual" reasons. A part of traveling, for me, is to stretch myself. I like to kind of make things more difficult for myself (placing certain restrictions on spending money, time management, or certain things to look for...) to see how it goes. And also, leaving things pretty open-ended. Sometimes something done spur of the moment leaves the best memories.
Oooh and I like to visit the homes of Greatness. Birthsites, graves, homes, hangouts of people I consider "great" or genuis or talented.
