Anyone been to Budapest or Istanbul
I'm spending next week in Istanbul and Budapest and wanted to know if anyone had experience with both cities - What should I watch out for in Istanbul - I've heard it can be a pretty dangerous place at times. I'll probably be staying at the "Istanbul Hostel" on 35 Kutlu Gun Sokak.
Also, can anyone recommend a good hostel in Budapest?

I was only in Budapest for the day but let me warn you that if you travel there by train it is a common occurrence for people to attempt to break into your sleeper so make sure you lock it and that you go to the restroom before you get on the train. This happened to me :-P fortunately the door was locked.
Budapest is a nice city though the weather was crummy when I was there. I would definitely go back.

I loved Budapest. Spent about 10 days there. I stayed at the Imperio Max hostel and I loved it. really small, sorta feels like you're staying with friends. everyone staying there at the same time went out together and the guys running it usually took us out. really central, a 3 min walk to the central market and about a 3 min walk to the metro.

We rented an apartment for the week we spent in Budapest - cheaper than 6 beds at a hostel! Didn't have any problems on the train, we were in a sleeping compartment on the train from Krakow. Great city, enjoy.

Istambul is gorgeous!! Unfortunately I don't remember where we stayed at, but make sure you try Turkish candy, take a ride on a boat on the Bosphorus Strait, walk through the souk, visit Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, and the best thing for me was the Topkapi Palace. It's absolutely stunning!
Have fun!!

I had no problems in either city and enjoyed both. Both are great cities, and there's a lot to see. Just exercise your normal "big city" precautions and you'll be fine...
If you want to read about my experiences in those cities, click on the link to my web page below...
