I've got an opportunity to go with a friend to Gambia for two weeks. It'll cost me just over $2000 CAD cause of the stupidly expensive plane fare. What do you all think? I'm pining for yes, cause I think it'd be a kickarse experience...but that IS a lot of money.
Anyone know anything about what it's like in W.Africa?
Any help'd be great, thanks

Ive not heard much about Gambia, but that probably means there arent any violent struggles going on right now. Go for it, you rarely regret things like this.

It sounds like a Golden opportunity. Exotic and your money will probably go far. There's a place like that I think about going to Bangladesh.

**BIG SMILES***
Thanks guys, so far all I've heard from people is 'why would you want to do that!?!?'...my reply 'for the experience' doesn't seem to make sense to them. *shrug* Oh well, I was STARTING to doubt. ha but yea the flight alone would be around 1700. FLIGHTS, that is. Gotta fly out of Europe which means hell, maybe we'll stay in Amsterdam a night or two. Free rent, free food, and the best guide possible...I gotta go :D
...It'll be my first hot Christmas...without snow...eek!

Sounds like a fantastic, once in a lifetime trip. I will echo the sentiment that I don't see how you could live with yourself if you didn't go. Enjoy!!

Go for it! I think traveling to a country like Gambia in Africa is worth it. I am always being invited by a friend to go visit him in Nigeria. I would like to do that.

Mostly because of work and school. I will someday soon. There are so many places I want to go too.

I'm getting pretty excited. Considering this will be my first ever venture out of Canada....
haha sadly Italy didn't work out due to one of those 'unexpecteds'. Hey can you bring liquids on a plane?? Anyone know?? My mom said you couldn't bring any but a friend of mine said you can bring them just not as carry-on.
???

Generally, it is now allowable to bring liquids on a plane IF you buy them AFTER you pass through security. Also, small bottles of health products, say eye drops, can be brought through security if the bottles are less than 3 ounces and you declare them to security and carry them all in a clear plastic bag (don't have them mixed in with other stuff in your carry-on). This is the U.S. policy, Canada may be different. Enjoy the trip!!
