Thanks for the mental picture.

I'm off to bed to dream about impacted teeth being shattered to pieces and being dragged out of bleeding gum wounds.

Thanks

I must have had Dr. de Sade then! I swear to god, at one point, he had two hands, two feet, the nurse and a double-jointed chinese prostitute in my mouth trying to yank one tooth out (took em two and a half hours to get the job done!)

I still recommend the ibuprofen, it reduces swelling in addition to pain relief - important for everything to heal quickly.

You're welcome
I probably shouldn't keep going with graphic descriptions eh. But my dentist did happily show me my bloody (pieces of) teeth after I was done...

And The Monsignor, I guess you just have...really strong teeth! 2 and a half hours (on one tooth?!), I salute you. Didn't the anasthesia wear off, did he have to keep jabbing you?

^I went through a period where I didn't go for years. I always kept up with brushing/flossing and all that, but as I never generally get cavities, I just didn't want to bother. When I finally decided enough was enough, and found a new dentist, there were no problems at all - I think I went maybe.....6 years???!! Now I go regularly, but I read somewhere that you really don't need to go more than once a year and that the six-month recommendation is more to fatten dentist's wallets more than anything else. I may be moving to a 1 time per year schedule as it just seems like I go, pay my money, get tortured by the hygienist...and for what? They can tell me everything looks fine...see you in 6 months so you can deposit another $75 in our account? Does that make me an anti dentite??

Hope you heal up really quick!

My dad never had his wisdom teeth come through, and I'm praying mine will stay put and not give me any problems either. I'm coming up 21, and I've never had any problems in that area, so fingers crossed, it'll all stay good! I can't handle dentists!

I'm sorry! Ugh, I know your pain though!

I have to totally agree with that. Mine started cutting in shortly after I got my braces taken off, and I thought there was no way in hell they were messing up my teeth. So, I had to have it done surgically, since two hadn't cut yet. I got them all done at the same time and as miserable as I was, it was so worth it. Unfortunately, I had horror stories come of it (woke up during surgery and they didn't catch it for about 30 seconds and then got dry socket which was absolutely miserable). But, most people have an okay time with it! At least it's over now!

Yeah, I only go for a checkup once a year and it's usually a quick 10-minute affair. And free. Which is good.

But now I'm paranoid about getting dry socket!

I'm alive. Thanks for asking. It's not horrendous, I just don't feel like eating or talking at all. Today I'm gonna go out, hit town with my buds and get myself McFlurries or Blizzards for lunch. And then maybe a milkshake for dinner. :P

Actually I should go pop my pills now.

I think getting your teeth out increases rate of drooling at night, muahaha...and things taste a little bloody.

I got mine out a couple months after I turned 20...all four.

An hour after the operation I was eating pasta and I got to have the best pharmeceutical high of my entire life....for two weeks.

The pain was pretty much only sort of annoying on day 3, and then it was managable and i was eating anything I wanted.

I thought it was fun :P haha My bottom two were impacted and they sawed them in half apparently :D was a breeze though! Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment or something.

I got mine out when i was 18. I was awake the whole time. Nothin like freezing injections, demerol iv and Nitrous to numb the pain out. Got it done in the morning and couldnt have gone back to school the next day but I just stayed home. I didnt have any swelling or much discomfort after that first day, and they removed 5 teeth haha.
Its wierd cause my cousin and my sister had it done a year before and they swelled up like chipmunks.

I only had three of them in me. The dentist was saying that eventually people will evolve to the point that they dont get them anymore. I don't know about that, but I know that I am an evolver here, one day... the rest of you will catch up.

Unlikely. The process of evolution takes place over many, many generations. As long as we have dentists that keep removing wisdom teeth, not having them won't be an evolutionary advantage, and we won't lose them genetically. If not having wisdom teeth provided some sort of advantage before the age at which most humans were capable of reproducing, perhaps then it would happen.. but the way things are, no, it won't. People who have wisdom teeth will continue to reproduce in upcoming generations. Besides, there'd have to be a large enough segment of the population reproducing that had some sort of mutation that prevented them from having wisdom teeth in the first place... Good thing your dentist is a dentist and not a geneticist

I see your point, if we take them out it will something that keeps taking care of itself (in a sence) but if we left them in eventually the body might take care of it on its own?

The other things that I got from your post, was that you called me a mutant. Sure Omi, don't worry about me and my feelings, I will heal... in time. :P

Either that or you're not nearly as wise as me.

Which is more likely. hehe :P
