They probably got word that that notorious radical, Stephanie, from Austin Texas was on an inbound flight. Have a great time and see if you cant talk to someone and get them to sort those problems out over there.

So far be it from me to knock another culture but this place is severely fucked up. It's been shabbat, which means no work. So the elevator doesnt run because apparently pushing a button is too much work. Much more work than, say, running up and down four flights of stairs.
No no let me correct myself; the elevator did run. It randomly stopped at a floor and opened up, you get on and pray to Jehovah that you will end up on your floor. Maybe, maybe not.

The kicker- we've been watching miltary stuff really closely.. So the israelis "accidentially" murdered a bunch of palestinians on a beach in gaza. Hamas responds by calling off all bets, makes threats against jerusalem (where we are now, going out for dinner tonight was thrilling..) and they fire some missles over that land in gaza anyway. So to retaliate against the missles that didnt even hit israel, they send some more rockets to gaza...

This place is crazy. Crazy.

Floating in the dead sea and getting covered in black mud was pretty frickin awesome though. I still reek of it after two showers....

And one more rant... Today we passed through one of the largest Israeli "settlements" and it looked like the posh suburb of houston I hail from. It was sick. And not cool sick, disgusting I'm going to lose my falafel sandwich sick.. Before the settlement, its all bedouin shanty towns. After you get out of this paradise, you can see the wall and the shitty arab apartment complexes. Something isnt right...

Welcome to the past 13 months of my life.

I wasn't kidding when I said this place is crazy.

Crazy is such an...inadequate word to describe it here.

We need a stronger one.

Israel is justa huge mind fuck.
I just left after 5 months, and I still don't know how I feel about it.
There are just these awful fucking acts, but then moments of beautiful humanity.

augh!
fuck Israel. I really like it.
You should go to Tel Aviv. It's a lot cooler than Jerusalem, because things like Elevators and stores are actually open on Shabat.
The beach is pretty nice, too.

What are you doing in israel?
cheers!

We're heading to Tel Aviv tomorrow, have been in Eilat since sunday. I like it here much better. Sure, its a cheesy, seedy beach town. But Ive conducted quite a few interviews and besides they have a very rational approach to drinking in public. I've been lying on the beach, occasionally jumping in to snorkel for the past three days and I'm browner than Ive ever been. Sweet. It's really neat snorkeling over the reef.. I saw some really spectacular fish, the lionfish and the blowfish especially impressed me. Yesterday I had my foot cut open by a goddamn sea urchin (the bartender I asked called it a "porcupine"), so my foot was bloody and burned all afternoon. Lame. The urchins are so evil looking... We're thinking of heading down to the red sea coast in egypt next week sometime, I hear the reefs are much better. Yesterday I was chillin and doing some work and the guy I was talking to pulled out a cigarette and lit it and offered it to me, which I found kind of odd. I told him I had a cig and he insisted. Well. I'm glad I took it. hehe.

If you go down the Red Sea coast, you should probably go do Dahab. I think it's one of my favourite places ever.
It's pretty chill, and the man that works at the shop next to Kwickly Restaurant is just so bashful and funny! (it's important to know if you actually go. he is a very bashful man.)
There are a lot of really wicked bedouin camps all along the red sea coast. israelis used to go there to have sex and do drugs all the time, but now that israelis arent going to egypt, they are pretty relaxing.

i'm in culture shock for the first time in like... 6 months.
cairo is way different than the sinai. or israel.
i'm alone and i'm hating it.
this really isnt good!
the japanese people at the hostel dont want to be my friends!
they are all into the pale british boys .
oh well, maybe i'll make friends with someone.
i think i'll go see the pyramids tomorrow.
everyone is raelly friendly, but doesnt speak enough english to get past the really friendly, smiling phase.
such is life!

you should learn hebrew. it's pretty cool. israelis /all/ go to india and south america, so if you're ever going to go to those places, it is an instant ticket to rocking out with culturally insensative sexfiends.
hey! i think 'im going to move to israel sometime.
it's pretty cool.

im talking way too much.
peace from the middle east!

You REALLY need to get your SCUBA cert. DAMN. Egypt and the Red Sea has some unbelievable diving and your sticking to snorkeling? You could get certified in a few days!! Just do it - you will L-O-V-E it.

Do any places there offer a resort dive? For non-certs, it's 2 25-30 min. dives after a brief orientation course... pretty worthwhile if you don't have time for a course!
