Anyone who has been following Canadian news probably noticed how 15 or 17 people were arrested for ploting terrorism. There was even a plan to behead the Prime Minister. I have a difficult time understanding why they would choose Canada as a target, especially since the suspects were born in Canada.. I'd like to know your opinions

There are whackos everywhere. A lot of what they do defines logic/reason.
'Course, I personally wouldn't object to seeing Harper sacrificed like a sheep on a blurry VHS tape. *shrug*

I think Omi's right. There are nutcases everywhere and that is why there is no point in a war on terrorism, since you'll never rid the world of all the arseholes.
I also think that people are mistaken if they think the terrorism we see in the western hemisphere is somehow directed by Osama up in the mountains. Its the Internet that allows ideas and views and even hate to proliferate in a virulent fashion, and convinces anyone who may have sympathy with the cause to join in. Governments simply can't cencor the internet, and that has huge positive and negative implications.
I must confess though that i am suprised canada has become a target, because as far as i was aware they were in no way supporting the war and chaos in iraq. Harsh one, and kind of makes you think you've got to 'pick a lane' and fight them. Not good for karma brother. peace

But Canadians are so nice!!!!
Anyhow, good thing we're hearing the news stories about how it was prevented instead of the aftermath. In one of the earlier stories, they said they had like 4x as much fertilizer as the Oklahoma City bomings.

Terrorism isn't exclusively linked to Iraq, if that's really what you're saying here. Canada took over major combat responsibility in Afghanistan, which is obviously bound to piss off Al-Qaeda-linked extremists the world over, and I'm sure the Canadian JTF-2 and related counterterrorist agencies and teams have been dealing with domestic and international threats against Canada clandestinely ever since the Afghanistan war occurred.
The reality of the situation is that this was a large scale counterterrorist operation that has purported links to arrests all over Europe, the US and Canada...it's kind of for show, I think; it's a way to assure the public the government hasn't had its head up its ass recently like the US did prior to September 11th, and that NATO governments are cooperating fully on security matters.
It looks like it's working.

But this time whether people like "The war on Terrorism" or not, it worked. I mean, they stopped people planning terrorist acts and now have them apprehended.

Governments can and do censor the net. China has been doing this for years. Originally they just didn't allow the connections to come in but slowly at first it did and once enough people had access, they locked it down. It was easy enough, they just went ahead and make everyone go through their setup basically. China is most famous for it, but there are plenty of others doing the same.

Well I live and work just outside toronto, my whole family works there.. I'm just glad they were on top of it and caught them before it happened... maybe this will show that it's not as easy to get away with in Canada as people may think.
And we are a presence in Afghanistan and a lot of people aren't happy about that.

umm....we are a target because we are participating in the war on terror and have been on al-qaeda's list since the beginning.
just glad they got them before any damage was done.
