I'd have to say I really honestly and truly actually want to go everywhere ...you can always get something worthwhile out of any new place.

Seems like everyone's idea of seeing europe is for the history and culture...

those castles look a little blurry through the hangovers dont they?

As I have never once been hungover (or drunk) I wouldn't know. What I will say is that the castles you mention are great particularly the British ones but I am partial.

In all seriousness I can see what Jake is getting at. In all honesty part of me would be put off Australia for the same reason its become "the place to be" except that I have a friend who has been and says its awesome so for him I am going to explore it.

Huh, booze and prostitutes bring out culture then? I wouldn't call you a snob - you don't fit the description.

K, a bit of background first: I've travelled alot, and went on a class trip to Europe when I was 17, but haven't gone actual hardcore backpacking yet. We're going to Europe in august and that's just going to be the first of my world travels -er second I suppose.. (hopefully)

Let's see if anyone agrees with my sister and I's theory:
We just can't wait to explore, check out the historical places I've been hearing about for my whole life, meet new people, etc and party a few nights, but not really. Yes, it's the typical "after universty trip", but I've been wanting to do it for 6 years, so whatever.

K I'll get to the point: we were discussing whether to check out THE places- Rome Paris, Barcelona, Greek Islands, etc. or, to check out some less popular places like in Eastern Europe.

But then I thought, I WANT to go see Rome and Greece, the only reason I wouldn't is because everybody else goes and it's overcrowded. For our whole life, we haven't stood in line for concerts, gone boxing day shopping, etc because EVERYone else is going and we won't get in/have room.

So, we're going to go where WE want to go this trip, because why shouldn't we get to see the Vatican City and Santorini just because everyone else is going?

If YOU want to check something out-go, and if you like getting off the beaten path, do it. just don't skip somewhere you'd like to see because it's too touristy already.

makes sense???

bah! well I've been drunk...but not really hungover. in fact since I didn't get tooo drunk while overseas (@ least not in most places) it helped wake me up early & I was usually off by 8/9 in the morning, even though I partied till 4-6 each night. I thought the castles were beautiful & all different cultures...you cant get that much diversity and history so close together anywhere else in the world. It's VERY worthwhile to see IMO

while it does make sense... it doesnt make me want to go there anymore.

In all honesty europe is on the end of my to-go list. The very end. Even behind places im sure to get killed in.... like the darien gap.

Fair enough. Tpunks are about accepting people! Anyhow, we won't lose anything by you not visiting W. Europe - though you can't say the same.

SA I agree. Hangovers do help you wake up early.
