Me and a few of my buddies are heading into Germany this summer for World Cup and general fun. While we're over there, we definitely want to check out Prague-- heard a lot of good things about the city. The countries we're planning on heading into are listed below. Please, all who've been in those cities before, give me as many recommendations as you wish.

We're going to spend a few nights near Nuremberg with a former exchange student of mine, but after that (and before, in Munich) we'll be looking to stay in hostels. So, again, all of you who have some advice for me I want to hear it.

I think we'll end up getting a Eurail Selectpass Saver for 4 or 5 countries-- Germany, Benelux, France, Switzerland and Austria. We're planning on being there for a month or so, so if you guys want to advise me on the amount of time I'll be able to spend, I'm open to it!

Give me some good advice guys, I know you seasoned veterans are going to have some good ideas.

We'll definitely be in Germany. Specific cities-- Munich, Prague and Amsterdam. Everywhere else is pretty much open to our collective imagination. We'll be in Europe from mid June to mid July. Everybody else who will be around at that time let me know!

I'd been thinking of putting my name in for the ticket lottery with some friends, but the bottom line is, I just can't afford it

You probably already thought of this, but I'd pre-book my hostel (or hotel) accomodations for when you're in the World Cup cities. It might force you to map out a skeletal itinerary, but it beats going to a city and either not finding anyplace to stay or being gouged with through the roof prices.

If you want a hostel, well, you can use the Travelpunk hostel booking page

yeah i think it would definitely be worth booking hostels in advance, they are booking up pretty quickly so ive heard

Cologne is a cool city to visit as well. They played a couple of matches of the Confederations cup here last summer and the atmosphere was amazing. gonna be even better for the World cup.

I would definitely recommend Berlin too, but during the world cup its gonna be really busy, and very difficult finding accomodation.

Vienna is also very nice.
