[font=Courier][color=green] Hello there, I am a first time traveller attempting to plan a trip to the UK, I would like to backpack, I'll have roughly 1000 dollars to live on while there. While in the UK I would like to see some small villages, with cobbled streets and such. I've been to England before but only saw big cities like London, and I wasnt backpacking. If anyone knows of any good cities or cites to see please let me know, I'm yet to plan my trip so there are no time constraints, I want to make the most of my trip and can not decide what would be best to see. I hope to see it all one day. Thanks

the cobble stone streets and thatched roof houses are mostly located in the cotswolds. Theres about 20 or so small villages in the cotswolds and a trail that connects them all. Only 2 of them have a train station I think, and a train ticket from london is pretty expensive. You can get there cheaper by taking a national express bus.

Thanks , I'll look into that area. Does anyone else know of any must see areas? This is my first trip I've tried planning and its pretty overwhelming.

cobbled streets eh...well being from the uk there are definately a few here. Apart from the cotswolds my suggestion would be to travel north as we have a lot of cobbled streets up here! Personal recommendations would be:
york
leeds
cumbria/lakes
manchester
liverpool/merseyside
wirral

I have suggested all of these places because it is definately cheaper to visit the north of england, however if you want to explore further you could try the Southwest of england for places such as:

exeter/cornwall
bath
bristol

Bristol will allow you to get to the cotswolds pretty easy...you could try other towns such as market towns like hereford.

If you need any more info i will be happy to help. I think you should try and get into Wales as well as its very beautiful there.

Bath has a nice old town but it is over-touristed. I highly recommend you look up St Ives. See this link for one of my favourite travel photos. There is old streets, a couple of churches and the harbour in the picture is the focal point of town. It has some restaurants and old pubs. Either side of the harbour is a couple of beautiful beaches.
