Can someone tell me just how miserable it is in London & surrounding area in mid-January? Are we talking just general coldness, or freezing, snow & never-want-to-venture-outside type conditions??

usually its just the nasty cold weather (all though its not that bad down south) and the miserable rain...but bring a brolly some mittens and a scarf and you will be fine!

Yeah, I actually love the winter weather in London. As long as you bring the requisite layers, you'll be absolutely fine. And it's perfectly acceptable to walk into a nice, warm pub and have a drink whenever you start feeling the chill.

Something I plan to do quite liberally.
southbeachbabe, are you for sure going to London mid-Jan, or are you just considering it? All that's left for me to do is buy my tickets when I have the money, and I'll be there mid-Jan until either Feb 1st or later. If you are going to go, let's have a pint!

Yeah rarely does it snow in London, which surprised me, cause it certainly seems like it gets cold enough to.

its too damn cold. hated the cold. and the wet. The dark was what really got me though. Sun goes down early. Thats alright, the drinking starts early. It snowed for a while in march but that was it. Damn the cold was awful.
That said, I'd live in London again, cold hot or indifferent in a second.
