> Greece (Greek Is) ~ Italy ~ French Riviera ~ Spain
> ~ Switzerland ~ Germany ~ Netherlands ~ Belgium
> ~ France ~ England
-- Nice itinerary...so, you're actually starting out in Greece and ending in England? What with cheap airfares to London, most do it the other way. Of course, you COULD be flying into London, then getting a cheap ticket to Greece, then working your way back towards England...which would be a good way of doing it, too.
I say definitely try to make it to southern Italy while you're there. The coastline south of Naples is gorgeous, there are lots of great Roman ruins there (Pompeii, Herculanaeum, Paestum), and the pace is a tad more relaxed than the Big Three (Rome, Venice, Florence). And if you have time, I hear hiking in the Cinque Terre in NW Italy is supposed to be gorgeous.
As for France (Coneheads: "France, we're from France!"), my favorite area is close to your chosen Riveria. I love Provence -- the south. The scenery is so Mediterranean, with sparkling hilltop towns, fields of lavender, and so on.
My favorite part of England is Cornwall, the SW corner. There is actually a path that you can hike all the way around the coast of Cornwall -- see waves crashing against the rocks, seaport towns, castle ruins -- it's great.
Sounds like you guys will have an awesome trip, and I'm sure others will chime in with their recommendations...
