Thumbs up

Gday guys...
My friends and I are planning a 4 month Western European trip mid 2006 (June ->).

We have created and itinerary of where we want to go and when we plan to get there, however as we have not travelled this long in some of these areas we are asking for some advice / input.

We hope not to deviate from the plan as it causes major dramas with people work in letting know of our whereabouts, however just general comments of possible deviations, attractions etc would be grand.

The itinerary is listed on our trip website we created:

http://boyseurotrip.freespaces.com/

Any input would be great.

Cheers again

~ Heardy!

first of all welcome to the boards
and my advice is to know a second language, even just a little of it, i advise french becasue if people dont konw english they have a good chance of knowing french. it also helps out a ton to try and speck peoples natives languages.

> Greece (Greek Is) ~ Italy ~ French Riviera ~ Spain
> ~ Switzerland ~ Germany ~ Netherlands ~ Belgium
> ~ France ~ England

-- Nice itinerary...so, you're actually starting out in Greece and ending in England? What with cheap airfares to London, most do it the other way. Of course, you COULD be flying into London, then getting a cheap ticket to Greece, then working your way back towards England...which would be a good way of doing it, too.

I say definitely try to make it to southern Italy while you're there. The coastline south of Naples is gorgeous, there are lots of great Roman ruins there (Pompeii, Herculanaeum, Paestum), and the pace is a tad more relaxed than the Big Three (Rome, Venice, Florence). And if you have time, I hear hiking in the Cinque Terre in NW Italy is supposed to be gorgeous.

As for France (Coneheads: "France, we're from France!"), my favorite area is close to your chosen Riveria. I love Provence -- the south. The scenery is so Mediterranean, with sparkling hilltop towns, fields of lavender, and so on.

My favorite part of England is Cornwall, the SW corner. There is actually a path that you can hike all the way around the coast of Cornwall -- see waves crashing against the rocks, seaport towns, castle ruins -- it's great.

Sounds like you guys will have an awesome trip, and I'm sure others will chime in with their recommendations...
