hey guys
im researching the rail journey from kyle of lochalsh to inverness, ive heard its absoutely fantastic! But on our journey around the uk we're really not going that far north, we're going to glasgow and edinburgh. Is it really worth it trekking further north just for the train trip?
thanks

I'm going up Scotland way and am really looking foward to going to see the landscapes further up north. I'd love to hear any info people have, but I think I am definitinely not cutting out this part of the journey.

I wouldn't feel like I've been to Scotland had I only seen Glasgow and Edinburgh. Pick one of those two cities (Edinburgh) would be my choice, and go see the countryside instead of the other one. Cities are cities, but the highlands, laddie, well, that's another thing entirely...!

58 Countries later, and still my greatest journey to this point has been my five weeks in Scotland...

I agree with Mike. Scotland is beautiful. And I love Edinburgh. The train rides through the Scottish highlands would make Glasgow a BIG disappointment. But if you do go to Glasgow I'd recommend taking a train from there to Oban for some delicious scenery. I saw a rainbow over Loch Lomond when I went. So pretty. The train from Inverness to Kyle of Localsh was absolutely surreal. Kind of Legend of Zelda sort of feeling.

When it comes to the UK, north is where it's at. I went as far north as Culrain in October. A great place to visit if you want to get away from EVERYTHING including food, people, and traffic. Night time was absolutely deafeningly silent. Spent a week in a hot castle and had a paranormal experience every night. Spoooooky. I'm going to get myself further north someday.

Oo, thanks guys!! That's some good info and I'm looking forward to it already, even though it's towards the end of my trip. :D
