I'm trying to decide whether I should travel around the UK with britrail or haggis adventures - for those who dont know of haggis it is basically a bus tour through the UK and they drop you at your hostel etc and take you straight to the attractions. This costs around AU $600 for a 10 day tour around england, scotland and wales. A britrail is significantly cheaper but i might have to find extra transportation on top of that to get to my hostels and to attractions.
Has anyone travelled on a haggis tour ... is it worth it??
Any advice would be great -- is there another option i'm not considering?

Im afraid I don't have any experience traveling around britian, but to me the haggis sounds too organised! isn't half the fun of traveling trying to find cheap transport(which will bring you to your desired destination) while interacting with the locals, and doing things the local way?

Depends... If your just doing the uk, id say go haggis. Youll meet heeps of great people, and probably see a great deal more in a short period of time. Another good way, and what i did, was use Megabus.com. I know that a few people on here used it to. You can get rides for like one pound, and even if you book only a day in advance you can still sometime only have to pay 10pounds. They have a good little network, and i spent the last two weeks of my time in the uk using this service to get from london, to wales then up and around scotland. The net is sooo awsome for travelling.

It's been a number of years since I did Britain, but I just used trains for long legs and buses for short ones. I don't know, maybe go online and check some sample bus fares (I pulled up a bunch of companies with a google search of "bus fare Britain"). Add these up to kind of get an average and see how much extra you're paying (or if you save anything) with haggis.

I guess the thing I like about traveling independently is that if you like a city and want to stay a few days extra, you can. Or if once you're there, and find out about all kinds of cool castles, or hikes, or hot babes or whatever, you can hang out longer. If you're on a structured tour -- as opposed to a "hop on, hop off" service -- then you are missing out.

But it ultimately depends on the type of travel YOU feel comfortable with!

Thanks for your advice guys! I think im going to go with britrail for most of my journeys. I agree with the independent travel idea - i want to be able to stay at some places longer and piss other places off when i get sick of them. although i wont be staying in a place because of the hot chicks as i am female myself and at the moment not attracted to my own sex .. but hey i might become a lesbian, anything could happen.
