Alright guys, I've read a lot of posts and think I have a pretty good plan for my trip. Thought I'd ask you guys for advice. I'm going to Europe for six weeks in the summer with my brother. To save money, we are only going to get a one month rail pass.
What I am thinking is flying into London, and spending a few days visiting a friend in Manchester. We want to go to Prague, and I've heard that its pretty easy to get a bus or train to Prague from the German border. So we would fly somewhere on the border, I was thinking Berlin. We would spend a night or two there and then go to Prague. From there I want to go to Greece, and then we would activate our Rail Pass. Once we get to Greece, we would head to Italy and work our way back to London.
Does this sound like a good plan? Is it worth it to spend time in Berlin? Or is there somewhere else in Germany that would be better? Also, is there anything that I would have to worry about when going to Prague? Train or bus? Finally, any recommendations on how to get to Greece from Prague?
I'm looking for some suggestions, concerns, etc. that you may have with this plan. Thanks guys!
-Sean

that sounds like an awesome trip there!
about getting from prague to greece.
you can fly there on czech airlines
http://www.csa.cz/en/czechia/cz_home.htm
prague-athens: $260
prague-thessaloniki: $241
you have to buy it round trip, because they dont sell one way tickets.
there is a train, but it looks like it would take a couple of days and changes trains like 4 times, call a travel agent(like sta travel) and ask them if your interested in it.
good luck!

eurail passes don't work in Greece so you wouldn't have to activate it till Italy and at that point are you planning on seeing some things between Italy and London or just going straight? If you get a little more specific with timelines and desired destinations it'll help us help u.

London-Prague? Cheapest way will be easyjet, is my guess. I just checked their website, picked June 20th out of the air as a summer date, and it came up for London (Stansted) to Prague, 17.99 British pounds, one way.
With all the lowfare carriers in Europe, nowadays, the prices sometimes beat the train.

I was planning on flying, but didn't realize that I could get a flight into Prague. Would Germany be worth it, or should I go straight to Prague?
I thought that the Eurail worked in Greece. Anyone know about that?
After getting to Italy, we would probably have around four weeks to make our way back to London. So we would be making quite a few stops along the way. We are definately going to stop in Switzerland to visit a relative. Other than that, we're pretty flexible, we're still working on a list of places we would like to visit. We just wanted to have a pretty solid plan for before we activated our rail pass.

Sounds like you have a pretty good plan. I would fly from London to your furthest point away, then as you work your way back, use your rail pass. No doubling back that way...

I would fly to greece...easy jet will do a flight to athens. Thats what i will be doing at the end of spring break here. Then, if you have a month after that, go north to munich and prague work your way counterclockwise throught the heart of western europe, berlin, amsterdamn, switzerland, barcelona?, french riviera?, then into italy...just my 2 cents.
