Ok guys I need your advice for where should I go this summer. I'm going to Prague first and then Lithuania (Vilnius), and after I want to go to Paris and Italy. I don't have time and $ for both. So where should I go. If going to Italy I thought maybe Milan And Sorrento. DOn't you think Paris is overrated. Is Italy cheaper than Paris??? Thanks so much :cheers:

Paris = museums
Rome = historical Roman ruins

I'm not too sure about Milan & Sorrento. What about other EU countries? There's so many more!

The Thing is I want to experience culture and a beautiful city, not really into museums more like party scene I'm looking for and definitly culture!!!

My favorite EU city so far has been Edinburgh, although I haven't been to Spain or any of the Eastern or Mediterranean countries yet. Edinburgh is a very gothically-beautiful city with tons of fun pubs and just enough, but not too many, tourists. That's probably out of your way, though, so I dunno. But, I think there are parties and culture to be found in a lot of places! Holland is another good one with Amsterdam, windmills, canals, bikes, etc. Some of the coastal beaches might be cool in the summer too - like in Croatia.

Paris is a wonderful city... you could spend about a week in Paris and be content to see all the famous museums and spots in Paris. Italy? That would depend on where you would precisely want to go in Italy (Rome, Florence, Naples, Venice, etc).

Both are beautiful in summer. Both can get a little expensive at times (depending on your sightseeing, meals, and lodging). Both can get stuffy and touristy at times. Both are exceptionally wrought with history. Both have Roman ruins. Both have amazing art work stacked to the gills in amazing museums. Both have good looking European men. Both have awesome clubs and bars. Both have very potent wine (bring aspirin).

Might I suggest Paris (if it were me). I would take a separate trip to Italy... give max time to see the breath- taking parts of Italy without being rushed. Believe me... you will have so much fun in Paris.

Prague is one of the best party cities in Europe... you can get completely debauched and stay that way for the whole time you're there. There is one right near the Charles Bridge (damn, I always forget the name) that was great!

I would go for Italy. Depending on how much time you have you'll have to pick which part/s. I am sure you would enjoy either one, but I just find Italy more enjoyable. Thats just personal preference though.

I think everyone should see Paris at least once. This is tough - I think I like lilwings suggestion of going to Paris for this time and then spending more time in Italy when you have the chance. Paris is pretty and all, but it is very touristy. There's a lot to see, but there are other places in Europe I'd rather spend more time. Italy is so beautiful - besides some of the major cities, a good one is Turin (Torrino). Lots of cool stuff there and it's beautiful, large and very busy. Not sure how the partying is - didn't really party there. If you want a cheaper party spot in France, may I suggest Lyon? It's a college town and there's tons to see, along with an old Roman Ampitheater on top of a mountain that you can get to by trolley. Plus, you could take a day trip to Paris. Anyhow, have a great time.

I didn't care for Milan at all, it was just a big stinky Italian city...If you want to shop I guess go for it...but besides the expensive stores there isn't too much.

You could check out the Duomo Catherdral, it was pretty unreal. For 10 Euro you can take an elevator ride to the roof and walk around. Great view of the stinky Italian city...

I vote Italy, the country I've always said I could go back to time and again for a decade and STILL not see everything I'd like to! I'm with Pinion on Milan...not sure I'd put it on any short list. The best thing about Sorrento, IMO, is its accessibility to other tourist sights like Pompeii & Heruclanaeum and the Amalfi coast.

Paris, well, I'm biased. I've said before on these boards it's the most overrated city in the world. There are many cities more scenic, with better museums, better atmosphere and friendlier folk.

The front of the Milan Duomo has been covered by scaffolding for cleaning since fall I think and was in December for sure.

milan is definately somewhere i would not return. the rest of italy i enjoyed although i have yet to visit the south of italy, but sienna in the tuscany region is the exact mental picture of what you think of italy as. all in all though, with one shot and never haven seen italy or paris before i'd go for paris.

first off, i really found no price difference between paris and rome, even florance is expensive, and venice is outragous (but is unbelievable i think). but anyway, the roman ruins get old, literally, i think. i enjoyed the museums in paris better, the louve is a little overwhelming but i like the orrsey alot. as far as clubs, your basically dealing with two of the most hoping places in the world, either is going to have crazy clubs, with expensive covers and pricey watered down drinks, but they are fun anyway, just stop at a grocery store and have a few drinks before you go.

although, if you really want nightlife, go to spain, anywhere in spain. the nightlife there is way better than anywhere else, the prado, according to me at least is the best museum in the world. im slightly biased though. i lived there for a while.
