I'll be in Madrid for a couple of days next year and I was thinking about going down to Granada and a place called CORTES DE BAZA, I have some distant relatives living there and I thought I might try and get to know them and the place, etc. HAVE ANYONE EVER VISITED CORTES DE BAZA/??? Also, what's a cheap/easy way to go from Madrid to Granada and how far is it?? Thanks folks!

I don't know about Cortes de Baza, but Madrid to Granada isn't too far; I would say it couldn't be more than 3 hours tops. Either train or bus, usually bus is a little cheaper and won't fill up but train is usually a little more comfortable....

Yes, it was one of my favorite places in Southern Spain! Most importantly, there's the Alhambra....you can't miss that! Also, it is just really beautiful; the combination of European, Spanish, and Moorish architecture. Supposedly also in Granada the tapas are free when you buy drinks....

Hi Jorgino,
I agree with u2fan -- you'll love Granada. After Segovia, it was my favorite city in Spain.
Tapas are little bar foods that over here we would call appetizers. Smaller portions than you normally see here, though. In some bars, when you order drinks, you get tapas for free. In others, you buy them. Maybe it depends on how many drinks you buy or what mood the bartender is in -- I never got the hang of it. I just know that sometimes when my brother and I ordered drinks, they'd set a little plate of olives or nuts or whatever down along with our drinks. Other times they wouldn't.
Oh, and here's another thing (besides the Alhambra) you can see while in Granada: The little villages in the Alpujarra Mountains...
