Kinda' loosley considering a trip to Iceland. Anyone been there? How expensive is it there. According to a brochure one of our dollars is worth 77 of their Koruna's (sp?) but is it all relative? It can't be as cheap as Eastern Europe. Also any sight's anyone could suggest or maybe just a brief summary of the peopele? thanks......

I don't really think anyone who posts regularly has been, and that is probably part of the reason why there was talk about a meet up there in the spring, though I think that might have fallen by the wayside?
I have heard that it is just as expensive as Scandinavia but that's all...

Extremely expensive. I think more so than scandinavia. All the goods have to be imported.

Ev is right...Iceland is supposed to be extremely expensive. However, the flights there can be had for a cheap price, sometimes, which could balance it out a bit.
I'm still thinking of organizing a meetup there for early next year, with the pie in the sky idea of seeing aurora borealis. It'd be a 3-4 day kind of thing, at least for me. If you go in Winter, your airfare will be cheaper, the chances of seeing the nothern lights better, but the weather will be far worse, of course.
So, cc, if you're interested, keep us up to date on the when's and we might get a least a few other Tpunkers there to share hotel expenses...

I'll be in the UK early next year, I could probably make it out to iceland for a bit. Brunettes are sexy there.

When I was planning my trip to Europe this summer I had already bought my plane ticket when I talked to some guy on the phone from STAtravel. He told me, and this is not yet corroborated by any other sources, that Iceland air has some deals for flying from the states to Europe, with a stopover in Rijkasomething-or-other, the capitol. Anyway, he said that if you fly from the states to Europe on Iceland air (which is usually one of the cheaper ones anyway) that they will give you a couple day stopover in the capitol and pay for your hotel for free. I guess they do it to promote tourism. Anyway, it might be worth checking out
