I'm planning a cycling trip around Sicily and wondering if anyone has any advice on places to see and things to do that shouldn't be missed. Thanks.

Sicily has been a crossroads throughout history. You will see tons of ruins and monuments and historic sights from its past -- Greek, Carthaginian, Roman, Arab, Byzantine, Norman -- you name it! Unfortunately, I haven't been there myself, yet.

See if you can get a "Blue Guide" if they make them on Sicily...those are without a doubt the best guidebooks to historic sights. Even places that wouldn't merit mention in other guidebooks have extensive information in the Blue Guides.

Have a blast -- and let us know how it goes. My next trip to Italy has GOT to include Sicilia!!!

I've only been to Palermo, and it's the largest, most populated city. It's a major port city, so it's kinda crowded and grimmy (sp?). I'm not sure that it would be so much fun bicycling there, but if you have a bike and are comfortable cycling in city streets, it can be done. Definitely visit the great Theaters, Churches and Museums.

For a more scenic ride, I'd recommend Mt. Aetna and Syracuse...

Enjoy!
