The more I think about it, the more I want to see Scandinavia on my trip this summer. I know I would want to go to Copenhagen, but not really much else. I've heard the main island of Denmark is pretty boring. What might be a good itinerary for passing through Scandinavia for anyone who has been there before?

Oh yeah, the industrial waste dumping pond right? I'd would love to make it to Iceland if I can, Viking culture and language remains preserved there unlike on the mainland.

So, how do you know Som has a little ass, Ninja-Joanie?
Yeah, I've been wanting to go to Iceland for years, but never made it. I wouldn't really count it as part of Europe for those eurailing or whatever through Europe. You pretty much have to make a special effort to get there. It's not like you can take a sleeper train there. On the plus side, from the states, Europe doesn't get any closer!
Hmm...so next Winter: Tpunk meeting to drink all night and watch the Northern Lights in Iceland???

Just spent one night in Copenhagen, in January. It was rainy, but looked a pretty cool place - from the people I've met, I gather that the Danes are the most relaxed and cheerful of all the Nordic countries, though the Swedes were universally friendly, too. Elsinore is supposed to be pretty, too and historically interesting, but scenically, the main part of Denmark is flaaaaaaaaaaat. Great for cycling, though. I have read that the islands are a little more interesting, but we're not talking the Rockies, here.
Had a great weekend visit to Stockholm, in Feb of this year. (Why do we go north in winter? I don't know. It must be my latent Canadianism.) Bought the 3 day Stockholm Card and easily got more than our money's worth - and that's museum hopping with four little kids (oldest 8). There's tons to see in walking distance of the Old Town, and the Card gives you unlimited transit, too, so you can go out of the city, as well. I'm a believer. Vasa Museum was great, Natural History was awesome. I was a bit disappointed in the History Museum, expected more Viking stuff, but it was not to be. We only visited 12 of the 70+ museums/attractions included on the Stockholm Card - but were overall satisfied with the quality and variety of the exhibits. It was much too cold for outdoor life, but the city was colourful and lively even in winter, so I imagine how beautiful it must be in summer. Hope to find out for ourselves this summer.

Som...spent some time in Gothenburg...great place to visit, moreof a college town and compared to Stockholm, very laid back. People are great, very polite and accomadating, and once they've had a bit of the drink they turn into a fun loving group. Go if you get a chance, flights from the U.K. really cheap.

the lonely planet iceland and greenland video is rad! very rad! and there's this crazy hermit guy out in the middle of greenland, and he looks freaky, haha. try and rent it if you can. and yeah, iceland is damn expensive - i'd kind of like to roll over there when i'm about thirty and making more money, well, assuming i am, haha.

hey, and i only thought of this just now - but swedish girls seem totally wild to me, if i may venture to say it, even a bit loose. haha! but no offence. check these picture galleries out: wow. i found these months ago, while i was looking for some other stuff. i just realized the relevance here because you expressed some interest in ibiza. yet another inspiration toward scandanavia for you boys!

first off: god damn not having my edit button, i would have loved to combine the last two posts with this one, so my apologies. and again too, because i didn't check that link i posted to those pictures and all the juciest one have been removed - guess the guys trying to be more professional. but i tell you, the pics he had before were wild. tons of boobs being popped out of shirts, a lot of heavily made up, scantily clad women at clubs. lots of lesbianic kissing shots - just pure madness. point being: i think boys especially could have a fun time in copenhagen.

Thanks for the suggestions tumbleweedz and wanderingwaterman. Those are some crazy pics joan. Danish girls certainly have that reputation of 'inhibition'. These pics remind me of Solvang. Ever been there?

It can get expensive if you stay for just a couple of days! But you're right, Stockholm is awesome! We spent a long weekend there in Feb - cold, but fabulous. Planning a return trip early next summer.
Incidentally, AirBaltic now offers awesome cheap fares to/from Riga and Vilnius from several European cities, including Copenhagen, Stockholm and Berlin - about 49 Euro o/w, so if you're in Scand and want to see the other (cheap) side of the Baltic, it's a good option. Hooray for EU accession - as one local sign here says, "We in Europe!"

I was looking on my wall map to see what countries Vilnus and Riga were when I came across a little piece of land bordering Poland and Lithuania. Its labled Rus. which I assume means that there is an islolated peice of Russian land along the Baltic there. I am shocked that I didn't know if its existence before now.
