Default It's on. The year of the I is finally here.

Whooop! For as long as my she-who-pores-over-atlases-with-great-longing-self can remember, there are a number of places I've wanted to go that start with I. Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Istanbul, Indonesia(specifically Bali).
And I always wanted to travel these places independently. A solo journey.
Intimidating, but invigorating. And it would seem the day has finally arrived. There will certainly be legs of the journey that will have friendly accompaniment. I can't imagine not running into awesome peeps goin my way I wouldn't want to move with for a time, if the posters on this site are any indication. But for the most part, I will be, a woman who walks alone.

I leave thursday morning from Vancouver, flying to Barcelona via Frankfurt. One day Barcelona (yar! Sagrada Famila!), a weeklong retreat in Malaga and then to France for April 5th.
I've rented an apartment for the month in Paris, not because I want to stay in Paris for the month, but because I know the city, I love the city and have lots of friends there. It'll serve as a base (I forsee random forays around the country) and then at the end of the month, when I get the deposit back, it's like money in the bank!
From there, onto Belgium and the Netherlands(friends in Brussels and Amsterdam) and onto Bergen, Norway where I hook up with Swedish friends for a sojourn to Iceland (I am unbelievably excited about this one!). Back to the UK, family in Scotland, family in Ireland, family friends in Valencia, Spain.
A time in Italy, so far Florence, Venice and Tuscany are on the list, but always open to suggestion. I'd like to see Greece, then Istanbul. And Macedonia, Romania, Croatia, Czech republic, Hungary, Poland, Germany, back on through my zany figure 8 tour of europe.
I have time, the earliest I want to come home is september. No, this trip will certainly be dictated by budget, as most are I'm sure. I've spent some time working out a budget, with lots of busrides, couchsurfing appeals, hostel deals and open air market lunches, but what looks good on paper, rarely manifests itself exactly as one imagines.

Perhaps I should have posted this in 'itinerary' but since my itinerary is a good portion of western europe i figured it wouldn't go awry here.
And so 2 sleeps and I'm off, the year of the I begins. And while I've listed these countries as the places I will visit, if there are some I don't get to this time around, I'm okay with that. I find myself consistently and happily distracted by shiny things and I am well aware of how the 'best laid plans of mice' quote ends.
I am travelling lighter than I have before, not even bringing firetoys this time. It's rare that I am found without firepoi and fire hulahoops. I'm still waffling on whether or not to bring my collapsible nonfirehula. I figure there are firespinners all over the world and I can easily track down some poi if I really need to burn.
I am open to, welcoming of and giddily hopeful of suggestions, meetups, lunchbreaks, tea parties, puddle jumping, tango dancing, firespinning, cloudwatching, and purring kitty belly rubbing if anyone is so inclined.

Huzzah. And then some small jumps, fists balled, eyes squeezed shut, barely contained screeching. A little bit of nervous nausea, coupled with the bourgeoning butterflies of adventure approaching. And then a smile.

Yay.

Iberia, Illyria, Izmir! Invigorating, ideal, intellectually informative, impassioned, incontestably idiosyncratic, incisive, impressive, instructive, imaginative, iconic, illustrative, incalculable, improvised, indescribable, inventive, irregular, itinerant and imminent!

Happy Year of the I.

that looks like a great trip. I am embarking on similar route with my girlfriend this summer though we are leaving a bit later.

I would suggest a lot of the smaller towns in Tuscany. I was not terribly impressed with Venice but I really loved Lucca, Siena, Pisa
Florence is amazing.

Well into it now! Left Paris yesterday, arrived Holland this morning. Stumbled across the Flying Pig hostel and this place is hilariously fantastic. Not sure how long I'll be here for, going to track down my friend soon and see what it's like here for a time. It's certainly picturesque and musical in nature.

I have 3 missions while I travel.

Find jazz manouche tzigane type music.
Tango every country.
Firehula every country.

I have a fire hulahoop and tango shoes, ready to take on the whirled...

Wow, you have some interesting missions.
I have only stayed at the flying pig on the coast, not either of the two in town. I have been inside of the downtown flying pig though. I'm sure you will have a freaking blast.
