Default Tips for Italy --> Eastern Europe

I'm looking for some advice...

In early May I plan to go visit my family in Perugia,Italy(I found a really cheap 350$ roundtrip ticket on alitalia). I'm then hoping to take 10 days to visit some eastern european countries - eastern germany, czech republic.. etc
Any suggestions on a good route or any opinions on the best places to go in eastern europe in this short span of time? I was thinking of ending my trip at the beach in Croatia then heading back to Italy to go home.

Thoughts?

It is probably a moot point, but there is a great hostel just on the outskirts of Perugia. It is called the Perugia farmhouse. They even offer their guests homemade wine.

Well Germany (even the eastern part) isn't really considered Eastern Europe, and even the Czech Republic is more central Europe but thats just semantics...

I assume you're flying in and out of Rome. to maximize your time and money, I would do a simple clockwise loop. If you found some good cheap flights on low-cost European carriers, you could go:
Rome --> Munich
Munich --> Budapest
Budapest --> Dubrovnik
Then take the overnight ferry from Dubrovnik to Bari, Italy, then the train back up to Rome for your flight home.

Thats a lot for 10 days though. Maybe skip Germany and head Ljubljana, Slovenia, then work your way down the Croatian coast to Dubrovnik, and ferry/trains back to Rome.

You could spend that entire time in Italy and still not see everything worth seeing. Though I highly recommend:
-- The Amalfi Coast...gorgeous!
-- Pompeii and Herculaneaum
-- The Greek style temples at Paestum

I also echo Slovenia. If you go there, definitely spend a day or so at Lake Bled. It's is beautiful, and there's good hiking around the area...

I suggest Krakow, Poland since you're in the vicinity. I found a cheap flight from Munich for $64 (roundtrip) through Lufthansa when I went last summer.
