Hi Guys,
finally found internet access so a very quick update. made to Meteora and wow...the most impressive sight i have ever seen. loved every minute of it. then headed to naples and wow....the dirtiest, smelliest place i have ever seen, hated every minute of it.
now i am in Roma...ah nice, fairly clean Roma how i love you. staying at the fawlty towers hostel. haven't been to the room yet but seems nice enough for 20 euro a night.
will start seeing the sights tomorrow before heading to somewhere else maybe thursday.
take care people, ciao

Cliffo! Glad you liked Meteora...I will definitely always remember that sight. Did you see anything while you were in the Naples area? There's a lot of cool stuff in the area...Pompeii, Herculanaeum, Paestum, the Amalfi coast. It'd be a shame to mess those and be so nearby.
Rome is a cool city, and that's great it's coming as a breath of fresh air after Napoli...have fun!

hey guys...its a glorious day in Rome today...sun is shining, a very pleasant day
WWM...yes i went to Pompei, the only highlight of my stay in Naples. going back there when my girl arrives so will also see Herculanaeum then. I think we'll do it as a day trip from Rome though, the thought of staying in Naples turns me off the whole idea.
Went to the Collessium and Vatican today, both amazing sights. Was going to head to the catacombs also but the lock on my daypack has seized up on me and its got my camera and other stuff in it.
I'm waiting for one of the staff here at the hostel to find me a pair of pliers or screwdriver so i can attack the lock...useful things locks until they won't open for the owner, still at least i know its secure..hehehehe
Already had gelato but think i'd better have some more, you know, get the whole when in rome thing happening.
Somnambulation, hope you find Naples in a better state than i did.
ciao,
cliffo

Hi everyone! Here's some more scoope on Naples in case cliffo goes back w/ girlfriend, and for somnambulation and anyone else.
When I arrived in Naples, the dirt, traffic and noise was somewhat of an assault to my senses too, but after some exploration, I actually enjoyed Naples. Here are some tips on how:
- The HI Hostel off of Mergenella metro is nice, meaning basic and clean. I'd definitely recommend it, plus it is cheap.
- There are tourist offices off of the main train station as well as off of the Mergenella metro. The old man in Mergenella is really nice.
- Actually, Mergenella is a place full of restaurants and it's a nice place to go for dinner. There is a nice view from the coast off of that boardwalk, and a good and cheap gelato stand there too.
- Besides doing the museums and castle in Naples, take the metro to Pozzuoli. There is a nice old townish area there and the beach is charming too. You can also tour the ancient baths from there, definitely worth it. Also, from Pozzuoli you can take the ferry/boat to the Ischia Island!
- Of course, from Naples you can take the ferry/boat to Capri, but, if you want to go to Capri, and especially if you don't want to stay overnight in Naples, take the train to Sorrento (30-45 mins I believe). Sorrento is charming, and I especially love it by night! From Sorrento you can go to Capri, Positano and Amalfi.
- Definitely go to the open air market in Naples and try Neopolitan pizza! Delicious!
- Finally, do not miss the National Archeological Museum in Naples, when I was there, I got a personal tour, and it was so amazing and informative!
- Also, one of the cheapest shopping deals, including film development/digital, in Italy, is in Naples and Sorrento!
Hope this helps!

Also, I went to Sicily from Naples, by train though. It was a pretty easy ride, but you have to change trains. Dunno much about the boat trip.

Hey Cliffo,
When you go back, stay in Sorrento, instead. There is a local train called the Circumvesuvia (cuz, you see, it goes around Vesuvius), that connects Naples with Pompeii, Herculanaeum and Sorrento. It's real easy to ride, and it is how I based myself out of Sorrento and saw the area's sights. Sorrento is a pleasant, and perhaps a bit touristy, city. Nothing like Napoli...

Carisia, glad to know that there is a good side to Naple...must of been hiding from me though
WWM, I made use of the Circumvesuvia to get to Pompei, i found it very easy to ride also.
Well guys, i'm heading out of Rome tomorrow morning on the 6:55 train for Venice. Then getting a night train to Vienna the following evening and will stay there for a couple of days before moving on again.
Good thing about leaving Rome is I know i'm coming back here in only a few short weeks when my girl arrives from back home...oh how I love this city
