Wales or not...
During my month long backpacking trip in Jan Ill be spending the 2 weeks in the UK starting out in bath and after about a 8 days total, Ill be heading to Edinburgh for the last 6 days. My question is about Wales. Id like to spend a few days traveling Wales, see some castles ...etc... but I cant find alot of information outside of guidebooks....
Id like to spend some time, a little social time.. good food.. etc before heading to Edinburgh.. Does anyone have any advice about what I should see if I have say 3 days? Is it worth seeing over York? Thanks! |
Cardiff is supposed to be nice, personally I like Brecon as well. I was rather indifferent to Newport though.

I myself have not been to Wales, but the way I see it, if you have the time to go, the desire to go, and the means to go, then GO! if it blows, then hey don't go back and you can say you've been to wales; and if it rocks, you can stay longer on the next trip or have an idea for your next trip or whatever. :)

I enjoyed my short visit there. Even if you just plan a day trip or an overnighter.

My grandparents lived in Wales for about 12 years, so I visited a lot as a child. It has a beautiful coastline, Pembrokeshire (in the south west of Wales) is great for beaches, but obviously it's not going to be summertime! That shouldn't put you off though, you don't need to sunbathe on the beach! It could be really lovely to walk along the coastline, and watch the waves crash about!
There are castles and museums in the county, and there is a special coastal walk. Check this website out: http://www.visitpembrokeshire.com. |
go to conwy. there is a beautiful castle there and the little city and scenery are gorgeous. and let's not forget the smallest house in britan.
Snowdon is beautiful as well. little castles, beautiful scenery and the highest peak in Wales, although i'm sure it will be rather snowy at that time. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...rian/wales.jpg this one was taken near snowdon in march. |
do wales! lived there for many years, plenty of places to visit. But i couldn't imagine doing it without a car. so hire one if you can.

I'd say go, the Walsh like the rest of the celts are stone mad so your bound to have fun with the locals. I've only ever passed through on the way to Birmingham but the countryside does seem to be littered with castles and not just your bog standard square castle like you get all over Ireland but nice fancy castles.

TONS of castles there...go!

yeah, i agree with scarlottedorian,Conwy castle is a great one to visit. The whole of northern Wales has some beautiful countryside. If you have the time, i'd say go for it:)

Considering how many hot-ass Welsh chicks I've met, I'd say the place is worthy of investigation ;)
