While jeans are one of the heavier pairs of pants you can bring on a trip they are also some of the most versatile. I say definately bring one pair with you. You can always wear them when you are en route somewhere and want a lighter load to carry.

I love my jeans, but I leave them behind. To me they take up too much space and the drying time is forever!!! If it won't dry in 5-6 hours, I won't take it. Thats just me though

I would take them. Take what you'll be comfortable in, with reason. One pair of jeans won't weigh you down too much.

My first time backpacking I didn't bring a hoodie and I regretted it so much I ended up buying one. Never made that mistake again.

I always have jeans (worn out and comfy!) and a hoodie when I travel, regardless of location.

I think if I were going back to W. Europe (maybe even Eastern) or anywhere with a cooler climate, I'd suck it up and roll up a pair of jeans into my pack. For anywhere else with lots of outdoorish activities and less museums and castles and churches, I stick with my cargoes. It's all a personal preference. If you tend to wash your clothes while you're traveling (or think you may need to) then I would stay away from jeans. They take a LONG time to dry!

I was backpacking for 2 months. I wore a pair of jeans on the flight over and wore them in London and other times when it was a bit chilier and stuff...It was great...as far as drying time...well...I never washed them so that wasn't an issue

But I say wear them on the flight over and just roll em and keep em in ur bag for when you need em

Dude... always take a pair of jeans.

They are the most versitile pants, you can wear them while partying, they're good on a cool night, good for air conditioned museums, and they de-wrinkle easily....

Exactly. At least here in NA, you can wear a nice pair of dark jeans into most anywhere. Very versatile, I think, for travelling. And if they are dark, you should not have to wash for a VERY long time. I have gone 6 mos without washing. Literally no problems, you would be suprised.

Like I said, you would be suprised how not dirty they could be.

I was slightly misleading, in that time, they did have a couple of rinses in the bathtub.

Still... that is quite impressive.

Did you get rashes on your legs or anything?

OK, so I have these pair of jeans from HS that have patches from all the places I've visited up and down the left side (during/around HS of course). They have had one knee hole and no less than two crotch holes. I'm home in PA for the weekend, so I'll have to take a pic wearing them to post. They got so "famous" at one point that people I didn't know that well in HS would bring me patches to put on them.

Man, I need to do that again.

Are Jeans acceptable attire for night clubs and the like in Europe?

I don't think I'll be going anywhere too fancy or expensive.
