Default Anybody ever been to Lagos, Portugal?

I was just watching this travel show called backpackers and it looked like quite a party town like Cancun or Ibizia and was wondering if anybody has been there and is it worth going to.

Yeah. It was a cool little town, but I was sick as a dog at the time and the weather was mostly overcast and rainy with patches of sunshine. Needless to say, I wasn't able to take the town by storm or even do one of those boat rides to see the coast.

Also, it was before summer so there weren't too many other backpackers or travelers at the time.

Ran into a few expats at the local bars. I guess it's a haven for expats.

I honestly need to go back to give it a better and more detailed review.

One thing that I do remember is taking the bus ride from Lagos, Portugal and arriving in Sevilla, Spain 4 hours later.

Man, the people of Spain are night and day different from the people of Portugal (in my opinion). The spanish were much more warmer and friendlier and the country as a whole is much more festive.

In any event, go to Lagos and let us know what you think!

Lagos is a promiscuous party and beach town. It is worth it for a few days but then I found I had to leave as it was too full on!

I loved Lagos...definitely very touristy but also definitely worth a visit. SO beautiful. Huge party scene...lots of fun. Also it's only about an hour (maybe 1/2 and hour)'s drive to "the end of the world" the historic point that europeans used to think was the end of the world, when they believed the world was flat.

Lagos was one of my favorite places I've been. It is a major party town and there is ABSOLUTELY nothing to do there but lay on the beach, get sun, and party. I stayed about 5 days I think...I could have stayed longer, but it's one of those places that sucks you in and you never leave. The partying started eating my money too...but I befriended quite a few bartenders

Whyte's Bar, Joe's Garage, and Three Monkeys were the major bars at the time I was there, but Nanabah (owned by the Rising Cock hostel) and Inside Out bar we found to be great.

It's definitely a crazy place but its absolutely gorgeous. I've never seen such beautiful beaches in my life. Ahh...I miss Lagos

I absolutly LOVED Lagos. Spent 5 nights there this summer. One of my favorite places. We rented a car for a day and drove all over the algarve coast. I highly recommend going to Sagres, "end of the world"

Like everyone else said, Lagos is a party town. I stayed up all night drinking and went to the beach and slept all day...The town itself is not to big and is fun to explore for a couple hours. Go down to the marina and go to the sand beach if you get tired of the cliffs. It is a really niiiice beach.

We took a boat tour which was sort of cool (definatly a ripoff, but hey we're supporting the local economy right?) We also hiked for about 4 hours right on the cliffs all the way to the lighthouse. That was one of my favorite parts about Lagos. You could assend and dessend the cliffs to get to small and secluded beaches. One of them ended up being a nude beach! To bad it was all old guys but we didn't know til we were at the bottom.

Like I said before, Lagos is there to party/drink at night and hike/swim/tan at the beach in the day. Sounds like paradise to me....

I got to Lagos the night that they beat England in the world cup so it would be difficult for me to judge whether or not they are a party town because it was absolute mayhem but by the looks of it, I don't think it's any more rowdy than any other small town. It's surely one of the most beautiful places I've seen and also had very cheap accomodations. If you like ocean fishing, we found a guy to take us out for a couple hours and then take us on a guided tour of the caves that can only be accesed by boat for 25 euros. Definately worth it.

ohh and fair warning....

The Rising Cock Hostel is a fun place to stay at but you pay an arm and a leg for it! It was like 20 - 25 euro a night for a shared room with no AC and only a skylight. No wind blowing through so it smelled the entire 5 days. Do your research because you can get MUCH cheaper and nicer than the rising cock.

The rising cock is also really really really hit or miss. They only house like 20 - 25 people so some nights its a nice size pregame party of people and other nights it will be you and 3 other people. The atmosphere at the rising cock changes dramatically depending on how many people are staying there.

The rising cock now sleeps 50-100 people. Its by far the best place to go now. While we were in portugal, every city we went to people kept talking about this hostle and it was Awesome! The rates are now around 18-20 euros. Free internet, free brekafast and a very big party hostel. Loved it, im making a trip back to Lagos simply for that hostel!

Rising Cock is AMAZING..Maria is the owner and she is a like everyones mom...she cooks sometimes for everyone in the hostel!! I absolutely adored her! The guys that work there are her sons and they are great...and the summer help..they are GORGEOUS!

Nanabah...their restaurant has a great free breakfast or for 2 euros you can add on more stuff...its soooo delicious!

Lagos is one of my favorite places I have ever been...I miss it dearly!

I think my bed was 20 euros or something like that for a 4 bed room...After my first night, i moved to a double sized bed with a guy i met in lisbon and there were 2 beds in that room...although after our first night, it was just the two of us and we still only paid 20 euros.
