Hey all
Going on exchange to Plymouth, UK for ten months. Pretty psyched....plenty of time to go broke and see some more of Europe. I've got a fellow boarder coming over in February, and was wondering if anyone had any advice of where to go? Obviously cheaper place to stay+wicked snowboarding is ideal, but I'd love as many suggestions as I can get. Switzerland? France? Austria? Any really good slopes you've found? Thanks!!

Southern Germany. Try Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Oberammergau and other lovely Bavarian Alps towns. Switzerland is going to be more expensive. I'm not sure about Austria. Either way you'll have a great time!!!

Boarding in the Alps is SO on my must-do list.

Solden, Austria and Hintertux, Austria

Solden's huge, its basically three resorts in one. Hintertux is enormous too. And the nightlife is really cool at both places, they really have that Austrian feel, with everyone dancing on the tables drunk as hell at about 6pm, still in all their ski/board gear. Good times.

Garmisch is good too, but very Americanized. Maybe that doesn't matter to you, but I try to get away from all the folks I have to work with.

.. Anyway, Western Europe is expensive the resorts are all well known and popular around the world but as always Eastern Europe to the rescue.

They have big mountians and many resorts at low, low prices. I have a friend who went snowboard in hungry I think it was and he said their just as good as anything in France or austria.

I think Eastern Europe has it all these days, their in the EU, most will be switching to the Euro soon (so expect a hike in prices, to Spainish ones), Cheap, decent transport network, cheap, really good beer, ok food and friendly people.

i plan on spending alot of time in chamonix this winter. i really wanna get up close to mont blanc. italy is supposed to have some really good stuff to and its cheaper than france and switzerland.

what type of boarding you looking for?

I've been boarding a couple years, but not a pro just yet. I'm looking for some scenic boarding, some good powder, and something that won't assault my wallet.

Hmm. . . I know my gussen also snowboards but I have never gotten the chance to ask her where, she is from Stockholm so Sweden must have some spots. In my case PA and Upstate Ny but that is over here in the states.

aperently the powder thing is pretty rare around the alps. everytime i hear someone speaking about it they say the rockies get way more. that sweden idea is pretty good. they might get way more snow up there.

for one of the cheapest theres the treehouse in austria, only a 5min walk from the chair lift, they can even supply ski gear if you cant be assed packing it, afterwards you can blob in front of the fire/tv/bar or in the sauna, a real home from home-take your shoes off kind of place. for more of a party atmos theres bunny's pub in st johann, close to the fields and plenty of apres ski

There's a resort in Hopfsgarten, Austria that's pretty awesome for skiing. It's part of a series of slopes 7 towns wide. Contiki offers a package that includes a stay in the lodge, some meals, a lift pass, and crazy parties at night. Hey! I went on a Contiki trip this summer and stayed in Hopfsgarten! Yah that place was pretty dope. Cute, little town with friendly people. I did check out the lodging and all that cuz i'm big on snowboarding. It looks like a lot of fun. Too bad there's no snow in the summer. Hahaha, but I did have fun mtn biking with Contiki through the Alps! Guess I'll have to go back when it snows!
