There seem to be a few people whose travels bring them to Europe over Remembrance Day. I've been doing a little research here, but haven't come up with any concrete ceremonies going on yet, though I'm sure the info's out there.

If you're looking into services in Europe, please post whatever info you can find, so people passing through can work out their best options - I'll list whatever I can find.

Canadians in Canada might be able to get information via their local Veterans Affairs office, or through a local Canadian Legion branch. I've checked the Veterans Affairs website to no avail (it's probably too early) and am off to check the Canadian Embassy in France site, will let you know what I find.

Okay, haven't got much yet, but it looks like the Juno Beach centre is closed after Oct 31, so you might want to double check if that's big on your list. www.junobeach.org has details.

Okay, just heard back from the folks at the Vimy Memorial - they have a Remembrance ceremony on NOVEMBER 5, 2006 but do not yet have the programme for the day. November 5 is a Sunday. So, it looks like our clan is going to be going to France on November 3 and driving home Sunday afternoon. I will post any other details I find here.

Finally found another couple:

Ypres, Belgium has an Armistice Day ceremony beginning NOVEMBER 10 AT 20:00 HRS with a last post ceremony at the Menin Gate, followed the next day, NOVEMBER 11, there are a couple of different services, including a "Poppy Parade" through the town and a Last Post ceremony at 11:00 hrs.

Also, at Juno Beach, there will be a Remembrance Day ceremony NOVEMBER 11 AT 15:00. We're going there this week, so hopefully I'll have some more details about the ceremony when I get back.

Didn't get any more details about the ceremony at Juno Beach, but if you're in the neighbourhood, it's a great place - don't miss it. They didn't have any poppies yet, but the guide assured me they'd have plenty by November. Just missed it by a couple of weeks.

It's too far for us this year, but I have a few more leads on possible services in Belgium/NL, so I'll post whatever I find.

Found out about another service: Sunday, November 12, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. at the International Church (Lutheran/Evangelical) of Vilnius will be hosting a Remembrance Day service, hosted by the Canadian Embassy, with reception to follow. The International Church is off Vokeciu gatve (Vokeciu 12, if I remember correctly) in Old Town Vilnius, if you happen to be in Lithuania this weekend.
