Well after about a week of organising myself to get out of north america i have finally organised a road trip throughout the UK with a friend who lives in London. Now funnily enough both of us have been to many countries around the world but i have never been to the UK, and he lives there and has never been around his own country. so we are stuck.

we have 10 days, a car, and enough cash to do it up well.

Since im an aussie id like to see some castles and british countryside by day, i like old built stuff. and by night we enjoy a drink or two......well who are we kidding ALOT of drinks so. what places are good to visit in the UK for 2 backpackers? i really want to make it to scotland so any good party places etc there would be good to know

also just a quick random question.....what budget airlines can fly me from london to amsterdam?

To get to Amsterdam from London? Depends on the airport, but you can take BMI, EasyJet, or AirBerlin on the cheap.

Hmm...where to go in a car in the UK? How about the Cotswolds, for one? They are those golden stone, scenic villages. Personally, I love Cornwall...there are definitely some castles there -- one of which, was very hard to get to by public transport, but sounds great -- Tintagel (of King Arthur fame). Wales has lots and lots of cool castles, and scenery and hiking. You could also take a drive out to Dover Castle, and take in the white cliffs, while there.

I recommend picking up a Fodors guidebook on Britain. They are very sight oriented, and often arrange their chapters in a circular driving tour format. Sounds perfect for two guys in a car. Oh, and get a B&B guide to Britain, as well, so you can check out places to stay. With two people combining their accomodation money, the B&Bs will probably be close or better priced than hostels...

Just some suggestions...

Also Ryanair flies to Eindhoven with an 18 euro bus to A-dam that takes and hour and leaves direct from the Airport. Return on the same bus is just a few euros more.

There's always Stonehenge for a good site to hit near Lonond

I'm a big fan of Cambridge. I'd go there, it's lovely all year round.

I second that, Cambridge is a cool place. I also just got back from Doncaster and would reccomend it.
