I've read around and saw a few mentions of this...
Where can you drink in public in Europe... rather... where should ya drink in public? The steps of spain in Rome or something I read before? Where can you get some wine or beer, walk around drinking or sit on a stopp somewhere with some locals... and call it a day? One of my favorite suprises in my travels was Las Vegas, I didn't know you could drink in public until I saw it... mmmm... those were the days. -Billy Vegas |
In Ireland (which would be the same as most countrys) as long as it's not in a glass bottle your ok, it's still illegal to have cans but the cops are less likely to bother you. Most pubs and cafes have an area to sit outside so your expected to drink there, it's kind of frowned upon to walk around swigging out of a paper bag. It all depends how much attention you draw to yourself if you go to a park and just sit there and have some food and wine no one would bother you I'd say.

In England, a lot of towns are clamping down on drinking in outside spaces. Obviously, if it's in the garden or surroundings of a restaurant or pub, then that's fine. In bigger cities, like London, I'm sure it may be different, my experience is only with smaller towns.

YOu cant drink in the streets here in Liverpool unless its in a designated area and with a plastic cup. We have an area where most people drink in the summer called Concert Square which has a massive open patio where there are loads of bars and clubs which open there patio style enterances and you can drink on the square. They evenprovide chairs and a bbq

Generally drinking in non-glass containers is allowed in most places, but like others have said, there are restricted areas. These places usually have signage (ie. in city centers in the UK) and advertise a hefty fine... If there's no signage, I wouldn't worry too much. I don't think there's any type of place I haven't drank in Europe.

Everywhere in the world, I found this out when I was in H.S (many years ago) get a plastic bottle(pure vodka) of water or any plastic juice bottle (mix it with vodka). Issue solved!

Every night i was in Paris all of us from the hostel would walk up to Sacré-Coeur and drink for hours on the steps. it was somewhat of a local hangout with someone playing music and the view of the Eiffel Tower. The police would stay on the road and never bothered anyone. I found out from some locals there that drinking in public regardless of the constrainer was never frowned upon.
