Well, I am getting a 4 day weekend here in Italy and am trying to plan a quick trip to cities I have not seen in Italy. I heard Pisa is only about looking at the tower for a half an hour then jump back on the train.....TRUE???

Right now I have planned this....My town(Russi)-Florence. Drop bags off in Florence and take bus to Siena. Siena all day, take last bus to Florence. Morning time, train to Pisa. Pisa half day, and another small town near Pisa known for famous chocolate(name escapes me). Train to Cinque Terre, sleep. Cinque Terre all day, leave to go home at 6pm.

Anyone taken the bus to Siena? Know when the last one is?
Anyone know an amazing small town in the Pisa area I can replace Pisa with?
Anyone know a cheap place to stay in Cinque Terre?

i had a good time in pisa, but there's not a lot to do there and once you look at the leaning tower and take some funny pictures you can probably be on your way. is it worth it to spend travel time to there, then the time in pisa during a 4 day trip? probably not, unless you've been to florence or some other places enough times that you dont feel like you need to be there again.

i cant make too much of a suggestion but sienna is such a cool place that i dont think anyone could complain about hanging out there for a while. its going to be mellow like pisa but the view from sienna is cool, and you really get the sense of what tuscany is about when your there. also cinque terre can consume more time than what u have planed. if your into hiking at all too, u can hoof it between the towns there and get some amazing views.
the world is a book, and those who don't travel only ever seen one page

i would skip it,, the only reason to go there is to see the leaning tower, and that square is packed with tourists and people trying to sell you stuff.. Unless you really like being a tourist and really want to see the tower its not worth it... A day or an extra day in the cinque terre would always be a better option for me.

skip pisa, we spent 2 hours in Pisa and one of them was looking for a shop that sold towels (Wyzfen left his hanging in a train somewhere near milan).
I would suggest pending the extra day in florence or Cinque terre.
In Cinque terre we stayed at Mar Mars, which is in Rio Maggiore, its €20 per person per night i recal. But beware of the runners in Cinque terre.

Spend more time in Cinque Terra, its SOOO beautiful!!! I had one whole day there and now I wish I had had at least one moer whole day there.
