Prague is definitely pretty cheap, even for being as touristy as it's getting. Food, drinks, smokes etc are very affordable.

On the main page here you can book hostels. If you're going to just stay in one city, I'd recommend booking in advance so you get a good price and know early on that you have a place to stay.

Where are you flying from? Are you just going to Prague? Start looking at airline tickets from your city to Prague and other cities in Europe. You can usually find cheap airfare within Europe.

More details would help though!

yeah, im just going to Prague b/c thats where my family is from, but this is my first time going and i also need a place to stay, i went to a hostel in london and thought it was quite nice, but then when i went to paris i stayed at another hostel and it sucked ass.. so i dont want to get stuck at another crappy hostel, im not that picky but i dont want to stay at a hole in the wall. i live in washington DC and so far the only plane ticket i can get is for about $550 and id like to know if anyone else had a place where i can go to get better tickets. if i went to a travel agency, would it be cheaper? would they be able to find a better rate than i would online? i tried STA and their rates are more expensive than orbitz.

What I'll do is go to the library and check out a handful of guidebooks (Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Let's Go, etc.). Cross reference the hostels you see available online with how the consensus among the guidebooks. Like for Santiago, Chile, I found that among the 3 guidebooks I read, 2 or 3 hostels stood out -- being recommended by all. Check here on the Message Boards, too, and see if particular hostels have gotten thumbs up or down. Then, book that hostel.

As for airline tickets, that price isn't bad. There are a number of e-mail lists and such you can subscribe to that send you daily/weekly updates. I recommend starting at the website for Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel magazine (www.budgettravelonline.com). That's how I got hooked up with most of my lists. Anyway, do a search on there for Prague and you will doubtless get quite a list of articles. Scan through them, and you'll find in their "40 Cheapest Vacations" more than a few for Prague. Look at the travel agency(s) offering that package, and go to THEIR website.

Any other questions? Prague is great...you picked a cool city to travel too...

Prague is a cool city just to wander around, you don't need any set plans. It's also very cheep for women because you get in free to all the nightclubs. If you can spare two or three days go down to cesky krumlov it's a old medievil town in the south it's about 3 hours away by bus, you'll like it.

I stayed at the golden sickle in Prague I'd recomend it.
