I was in the region in June and there were lots of tourists then (well... depending on which part of the region), so I'm not sure about tourists in October but if you have any questions about travelling in the area, I'd be happy to answer them.

i have lived in central europe (hungary) for a couple of months sept until dec and there were plenty of tourists around all year. I actually prefer late oct early nov because thats when most of the college kids have gone back to school!

IMO, that's a great time to visit. Most facilities should still be open, but you won't have swarms of tour buses.
Go for it! Any particular countries you've picked out, yet?

Mike,
I am starting my trip in Frankfurt then on to:
Munich
Ljubljana
Sarajevo
Belgrade
Budapest
Prague
And maybe Krakow if I have time. I plan to try to keep some semi-detailed notes is there is not a whole lot of info about Bosnia and Serbia on these threads. The reason I asked about October is because I am travelling solo and wanted to make sure there would still be people around to go out and party with and the such. Later

Yeah, ajb3000 and Rimbaud posted some fairly detailed info about the Balkans awhile back...
You did check here didnt' you?
And here right?
I'd say they sound like good sources to ask for any of the questions you may have. And let me know how it goes...Lublj, er Lubjub...eh, Slovenia is on my list of places to see!!!
