Any suggestions on places to go and things to see in Eastern Europe?

I recommend chzech-republic. A great in-expensive city, great bars to hang out and the ladies are amazing. The country is also really nice to see.

ErinBC, I just read your other post, and read that you were married, and have kids. Never mind the bars and the ladies. :P Chzech has a nice castle you can go see. I believe they filmed that movie harry potter there, but don't quote me on that.

Budapest is also a nice city to go see. They have some nice turkish showers that can help you relax during your trip.

I'll tell my hubby that there are fine ladies there We may be parents, but we love a good drink and a lively lifestyle. I am 24 and Alex is 23. Reason #1 never to have an apartment next to your high school-its all too easy to sneak away on lunch breaks

My old roommates are from Slovakia (neighboring Czech) and they live like a royal couple on $5 bucks a day! Not sure if it's around the same price range of Czech, but I think it's even cheaper and filled with great people.

Hello ! Eastern Europe is a very interesting area, with several cultures and landscapes to discover. What kind of trip would you like to do ? Cultural, historical-political, or outdoory ? From my experience, here is a few places to visit in a glimpse :
-Poland : Cracovia and Auschwitz
-Slovakia : the Tatras Mountains
-Hungary : Budapest, and Eger (but I've heard Pecs was also really interesting)
-Romania : the Maramures, Transylvania, Bucovine, and the Black Sea (touristic, but nice anyway)
Those were the countries I visited last year. If you want addresses and precise tips, please write me.

It was a great apartment LOL. Haul all my friends home on lunch breaks-and forget to go back to school!

We have set up a 3 week swap in Italy in June, 3 weeks in England in July. Our trip is coming together!

Next week we're going to Northern BC (Prince George area) I really should be planning that trip....but!

We also found a neat family in Poland that can't afford the flight to Canada, but they invited us to their house. We'll see how emails go, whether she seems scary or not! We were always having homestays growing up, and it was really neat.

Thanks for your tips on Eastern Europe. I am of Jewish descent, so Auschwitz is on my list. We've been emailing with a family that has invited us to stay with them in Poland-they are near Gniezno. She's a french teacher, and I speak French, so we could communicate, and it might be a really interesting way of seeing Poland-like Natives!

Hi! I can recommend following places I've been and think they are lovely:
1) Romania: Brashov, Bucaresti, Timishora, Karpati-mountains area
2) Serbia: Beograd (very nice city, but still demaged by war), annual festival of gypsy music - "Gucha fest", the same festival in Valievo.
3) Poland: I dont love Warsawe anyway, but Klotzko, Wrazlawe, Krakowe are very beautiful... Kudowa-Zdruj - the best place in Eastern Europe!
4) Czech rep.: only place I have been is Nahod. I don't like it.
5) Russia and ex-USSR countries: Western Ukraine (Lvov for example or Ivan-Frankovsk are very beutiful/ They looks like poland towns. :D ), Karpati-mountains area of Ukraine - small piece of paradise, i'm not kidding!, Uzhgorod-city - built by czech and madjar people, one of the kindnest city in Eastern Europe! You will find here anything - and first of all very beautiful and kind ( ) people... I love it very much!!! Ok, Belorussia. Only place i can recommend - Grodno. Built by poland people, but in 1939 was occupated by USSR army. Russia. Moscow and Peterburg - places for tourist, quite intresting, but not exotic. I can recommend Vladimir - small and very nice city 200 km toward to east from Moscow. Torzhok - very small, but very intresting town, one of historical centres of Russia. Situated something like 200 km toward to north from Moscow. Not very exotic? Ok. Karelia - finland area, occupated by USSR army during the war with Finland. It's only piece of wild nature in Europe - only Swiss and Scandinavia have something like this, as I know. If you are intrested in Russia, get in touch, i can tell a lot about it - I'm living here, in Moscow.

Your English is good, you speak better than many native speakers I know.

and you have given a lot of things to think about for my upcoming trip.....hmm.....

I am planning a trip to Kiev and Lvov, and I am really looking forward to both. A train seems to be the best option- there is a daily train from several Eastern European cities that will hit both of these. Would it be possible to jump off at Lvov and jump on a couple days later with the same ticket? Or do I need to buy two tickets? From Kiev I need to go to Russia, looking at Volgograd, since I have friends there. I have recently found a train that will take me from Lvov to Kiev to Debalzewo (which I don't know much about) to Volgograd. So many issues to be worked out...

Its a shame I only have a month, and many places you mentioned I have never considered or have even heard of. Time for more research. Thanks for the info and the recomendations. Take care.
