Swimming it really sucks.

In all honesty, Holly, I recommend reading through a guidebook or two and just see what jumps out at you. Since you're just getting ideas, you can skip the long sections on accomodations, restaurants, etc., just read the intros and the sights.

Once you kind of get an idea WHERE you want to head, well, your TP buddies will gladly step in and answer questions...

I usually start off with lonely planet guide, then form some opinions. Then ask around, then finally talk to a few travel agents to see how do-able the whole itenery is.

ooo...Slovenia -- that's no my "Event Horizon," too! Especially now that easyjet flies to Lubjub, or whatever that unpronouncable capital of theirs is called... :lol:

Keep us posted. As for Hungary, that was nice, although I only had two days do a flight problem. I hear that if you get out in the countryside, away from Budapest, it is really gorgeous. Budapest looks like your classic Soviet bloc city ugly city until you get down around the river, then it shines.

Ok Ljubljana is good but very pricey compared to other countries in eastern europe

Bratislava (Slovakia) ok but living in Hungary i find the scenery very similar because of their interlinking histories within the austro-hungarian empire.

Krakow (Poland) amazing! cheap and pretty

Prague (Czech rep) what can i say about this place it truly is beautiful

Budapest is like wwm said a little bit like a communist block but if you jump on a local train from Batthyany ter (Buda side0 you can head for a little town called Szentendre (St Andrew's in english) this place is very olde world and very beautiful best of all it takes 40 mins on the train and the ticket is 150 ft (around 40p or $1)
