Going through Eastern Europe this summer on my first backpacking trip. Does anyone recommend any clubs, bars, nightlife worth checking out in Prague and in Bratsliva? I heard that it is cheap there. Is that true? How would you compare the prices to things in the US?

IŽm sure I can find places on my own, but wouldnŽt mind any suggestions from backpackers that have been there before.

In Prague try the UFLEkU 14th century pub/wine cellar. In Bratislava see the Castle and Place guards in their toy town white uniforms. David

I heard of a few pub crawls that seem to be quite a popular thing to do in Prague. Everything is quite a bit cheaper than the western europe countries.

IŽve heard that the Arena Hostel is quite a popular place for backpackers to stay so youŽll find no problems in hooking up with other people to hang out with. Can anybody verify that?

Beers in Slovakia cost about 25 cents for a pint! I heard that you can eat till youŽre stuffed and drink all you can handle for about 3 bucks a day! How can you go wrong with that! B)

Any backpackers out there with tips on these eastern European countries? DonŽt be shy... Please post them!

We went to the 5-story Krumlov Club at the St. Charles Bridge which is advertised as "The Largest Club in Middle Europe." Well, with 5 floors, it may well be. Try an absinthe shot there if you go, it's real.

I actually stayed at the A&O Arena Hostel. I wouldn't say it's anything to rave about. It's on the edge of town and the men's showers are only on the 2nd floor (and don't even have soap dishes for God's sakes - I guess you're supposed to hold it up your @ss?!). Now I wouldn't say it was really bad or dirty, just a bit Commy-rigged.. Plus, I don't know how it compares relative to other hostels in town.

Food & drink is certainly cheaper in Prague, but many of the services and imported goods are not. You might be surprised to find yourself actually paying more for less in the way of some accommodations, walking tours or clothing for example...

Voyds in tha house!!!! Sup dawg! Glad you made it back in good condition.
Thanks for the report on Prague. That club sounds pretty bump'n. Five dance floors kind of scares me, in terms of emergency cases (like a raging fire! ) Heard too many horror stories about people trapped in clubs.
How were the locals? Nice to Americans?

Yeah, how bout that Absinthe- It's like taking shots of gasoline !

Hi!

IN prague you should definately check out the hotel/discotheque Zlaty Strom (golden tree). On a holiday of 2 weeks in prague I've been in this club about 10 times (we did average of 3 clubs per night, cheap enough). This club has a small dancefloor with very nice chics. And a striptease area with nice Czech girlies!!!

Have fun

Tone - ha true, I was thinking about that myself when we were there...

But, just be sure to try some Primator Double beer while you're there - 20-proof coffee-tasting dark sheer manna from heaven ahhhh!!!

I drank more beer in Europe this last year than the last 12 years put together

In Spain, it's common to drink beer with every meal. They serve beer in McDonalds! Whoa, Nellie!
That Primator Double dark stuff looks quite interesting. I'll definitely try some of that when I hit up Prague

spend two months in prague last summer during the floods. i was evacuated from karlin and moved into an awesome hostel in zizkov called the strawberry. it is a dorm for charles university during the school year, but offers rooms for cheap with a modest breakfast, no curfew and clean rooms. The address is: Slavikova 22., Praha 3, Prague.

also, a cool bar i spent a lot of time in was za zrcadlem off of wenceslas square on zitna str. za zrcadlem (through the looking glass) is a little bar where you can meet travelers from all over who play a lot of chess games with the resident chess master while drinking amazing czech beers and wines.

a good website to get info is prague.tv- sponsored by the prague pill, an free local paper written by ex-pats.

another fun place is the beer garden in zizkov, a few blocks from the strawberry- they have live bands and cheap beer.

Hi everyone,

Yes, beer is indeed cheap in Prague. I went there a couple years ago, and as me and my friend were sitting their drinking our first Czech beer, I did the math. Twenty cents! Woo-hoo! A place Homer Simpson could go to die...!

Seeya!
