need help regarding the euro rail pass and accomodation in eastern europe - TravelPUNK Backpacker College Student Budget Travel Message Boards!

Hi All, i am travelling to austria, hungary and czech in april basically i want to know if it is wise to spend on a euro east pass which is 250$. i checked point to point tickets and they are quite expensive.
please help me regarding the same, and also i would like to know of any decent places in prague to live in.

Where did you check the point-to-point tickets? On RailEurope or whatnot? Or at each country's railway web site? I found that train travel in the Czech Republic was cheaper than fake crack in an Oakland alleyway.

I would have to vote for No on the Eurail pass. Usually its much easier/cheaper to get your tickets as you need them on the ground, unless you'll be doing a great deal of riding the rails or are planning to travel during a huge tourist peak time.

I'd vote no as well. when i was in Czech train travel was pretty cheap. i also found in eastern europe that at times it was easier (and cheaper) getting a bus.

As for accomodation in prague, we stayed at SirTobys which was great, really friendly hostel and a really cool atmosphere.

Not to mention - sometimes faster! For instance, going from Prague to Cesky Krumlov (and back) is faster by bus than by train, because it's direct.

I stayed at the Golden Sickle in Prague - not too impressive, but cheap and super central. The Hostel 99 in Cesky Krumlov was pretty sweet. It's at the edge of the town near the bridge where the kids entered the town in 'Hostel,' so it's really close to the bus stop, and the accommodations are pretty nice.

I also stayed at Sir Toby's and absolutely loved it. Its a short tram ride from the center of town, but that meant the restauarants in the area weren't too bad compared with the most touristy places. The hostel also has a pub in the basement and sometimes does free dinners. I highly reccommend it.
