I'm going to Dubrovnik, Croatia this summer for a few days. Beach, old town walls, bars built into the rocks, should be a pretty good time. I've had trouble finding good flights from their airport to the UK, so I'm heading from there to Prague for a few more days, then to London. Sorry if i wasn't much help...

Right, well as far as I'm aware there are no budget flights to Montenegro, but you can fly to Pula or Zadar in Croatia from London Stansted with Ryanair, or you can fly to Split or Zagreb from London Luton with Wizzair, or even to Rijeka from Luton or Bristol with easyjet, so plenty of budget options there.

I've only spent time in Zagreb and Dubrovnik in Croatia and not made it to Montenegro yet so I'll tell you a bit about those cities. Zagreb is very small for a capital and without many sights or decent hostels, but it's worth spending a couple of days in anyway, espiecally if you like to party as there's a huge student population thanks to the University. They have a huge variety of bars from a complete ghettos with blacked out windows and artistic graffiti everywhere (but have a lot of character and are very cheap), to disco boats on the river sava to posh pool/snooker bars. Plus the majority of students speak english so you can make a lot of friends there.

Dubrovnik is the "pearl of the adriatic", an absolutely stunning old walled town on the coast with clear blue waters. I spent two days there, one walking round the old town and for the other I took a day trip to an island just off the coast, where you could hike to the top and see a great view of Dubrovnik across the sea and have a walk around a monastry surrounded by trees. It does get REALLY busy in the summer though as it's a very popular tourist destination and is also rather expensive.

The train network is rather minimal in this part of the world so most of the time you'll be travelling by bus, however these are very extensive, comfortable and cheap, so not problems there. I have heard that Montenegro is very mountainous though so travel around there will take a bit longer.

Note that the bus to Dubrovnik from anywhere else in Croatia will pass through a 16km stretch of Bosnia, but providing you have an EU/US passport you won't need a visa so it's not a problem.

You can see my Dubrovnik pics here: http://s51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...avels/Croatia/

I'd say go to Montenegro and tell us all about it when you get back! There's a National Park at Durmitor which is supposed to be really worth checking out.

When do you intend to go?
