Hi!

I'm leaving now the 11th of july for Budapest, and then going home the 31st of july from Katowice. Planning to stay a couple of days in Budapest, then I'm going further on to Bratislava, Wroclaw and Krakow.

I'm travelling on a relatively low budget and therefore I want to discover some genuine, traditional smaller towns where I can stay for some days without spending too much money. I heard about Cesky Krumlov in Czech Republic, is that worth a visit? Since I'm going home from Katowice, maybe that town has something to offer? Someone here also recommended Boleslawiec?

Well, as you notice I might need some help here....

Thanks guys.

Boleslawiec is definitely off the beaten path for backpackers (ceramics shoppers from Germany flock there by the ton), but it's a neat little town with some cool stuff to see, and not very crowded because all the shoppers just do a circuit of the factory stores. It is, however, quite a long way from the rest of your path. It took pretty much the whole day to get from there to Krakow, and about 5 hours from Wroclaw. My favourite two cities in Poland are Gdansk and Szczecin - the one a major city and tourist draw, the other less touristy, smaller but really fun. Both are well worth visits. From Szczecin, you can spend the day in Swinoujscie (I may have spelled that wrong), a slightly decaying resort town with a lot of charm.

I don't know about many smaller towns/villages in Poland, we tended to stay more in the larger centres during our visits. I bet you could find something smashing in the Tatras, though - maybe one of the ski resorts.

Good luck, and have a great time.

My brother lived in Katowice for a few months, and didnt really like it. wasnt much to do i think, and not a very tourist friendly city.

Poznan is a great city, but that might be a bit out of your way...my brother lives there now and loves it. i was there a couple of years ago and had a great time. Its still not as touristy as krakow or warsaw, so should be a bit cheaper
