Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site and not sure if I'm doing this right...but anyhow...I am a Canadian girl and will be travelling for the first time outside of Canada to Europe this June and July by myself. I will be starting in london, then going to paris, brussels, amsterdam, berlin, prague, munich, then back to paris and finally london again. I think I'm going to take a bus from city to city, but I was wondering how hitchhiking is viewed in these cities/countries, and how easy it is to do if it's legal. I was also wondering if it's easy to find one or two day jobs around Europe so I can make a little cash while travelling.
Thank you!

Hey Rae,

I think your question got missed, sorry. Personally I wouldn't hitchhike in Europe, but there are lots of people around here who can give you their two bits too.

The buses and trains throughout Europe are very extensive, and for the most part not horribly expensive (esp. the buses) so you can get around reasonably easily and cheaply. In some countries (I wouldn't recommend Switzerland, because I'm a wimp), you might do well to rent a bike, if you want a more off the beaten track experience. Might be a challenge with your pack, though...

Don't know personally about getting jobs, although dig around in the boards a bit, and you'll find discussions on both topics (jobs and hitchhiking - check in "working abroad" and "transportation", as well as "general discussions" and the general traveling threads.

Sorry I didn't get to it either! I have a new puppy who's very demanding of my time. And very distracting when trying to go through these boards.

I think Bug Europe should give Travelpunk a kickback. I point people in their direction when they ask for information on hitchhiking. They also have info on http://europe.bugride.com/ rideshares. That would be a good resource. I know people on here have hitch hiked in Europe before, and so far, 98% of our members are accounted for. ;)

Being a Canadian, I believe you can work legally in Europe, right? Someone help me on that one. :) If you're just looking for a few quick bucks, as at your hostel if they need someone to help out or know of anyplace where you could wash dishes/clean/do reception work for a few days.

I hear that Amsterdam is well known for biking (relatively flat) so you may want to give that a try too.
