Sabah, Borneo - TravelPUNK Backpacker College Student Budget Travel Message Boards!

Hey all, I'm a 20 y/o female heading out alone to Malaysian Sabah in Borneo from the 14th to 27th of July. Current itinerary is Kota Kinabalu, Padas white water rafting, climbing Mt. Kinabalu (still working out details for that thanks to the dang overpriced monopoly on accomodation!), Jungle stay/safari along the Kinabatangan River, Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, Sandakan, getting my OW diving PADI cert at Semporna and Sipadan, one of the top dive sites evah! Flying in to KK and out of Tawau.

I'm travelling alone, budget hostelling it and all...I'm all about the bumpy busses and good local food.

that sounds like such an awesome holiday - I used to live in Brunei so I've made a few trips to Sabah. by the looks of what you're doing, it seems like you love doing adventurous stuff and you will love it. I'm glad you've included the Kinabatangan river, it was what I was about to suggest. get a local guide to take you on a boat for crazy memories - my favourite was the guide saying "As you can see, there is snake in the tree over our boat. We hope it doesnt fall into boat because snake is poisonous. If snake fall into boat, dont jump out because there are crocodile in river." yay! fun and games for all! but in actual answer to your post, i am not going anywhere near sabah any time soon.. but have an awesome time

That's awesome, snakes and crocodiles. Sounds like lots of fun. :D
I'm doing the 3D/2N stay in the jungle with Uncle Tan, if you've heard of him...and we'll definitely be boating several times. Oh, I wish it was summer already.
