I'm embarking on a 6-12 backpacking adventure around South America and south east Asia in late 2005 or early 2006 and am looking for any fun and adventurous people that would like to join me along the way. I have one friend that is coming, but the more the merrier i reckon. There's no real plan, just to have a heap of fun, do a heap of partying, and see some amazing things. This will be my virgin backpacking trip so it would be nice to have a few more people to try and figure out the delemas that we face along the way. Is anyone on here from South America or SE Asia that can maybe put up a few tired backpackers for a few nights, or maybe show us around, or give us advice on where to go and where not to go, or that maybe just wanna hang out for a bit???

Oh yeah, you might want to know some details about me, i'm male, 21, from Australia and just wanna have fun and meet some cool people. Oh, and i've started taking spanish lessons so i should be able to talk a bit of spanish by the time this trip comes around.

Adios

Thats kind of a strange set up for a trip since they are on oposite sides of the world, but whatever its totaly do-able. Man, I would come but in all honesty South America scares me a bit, that I reckon is the hardest place too backpack in the world, its close with africa but SA is just relly volitile and stuff, so im not coming for that leg lol. I wanna do it, but maybe in a couple of years

Yeah, i was a bit worried about SA but a friend of mine went backpacking around there for a year and said that as long as you don't go to the wrong places you'll be fine. That's why i'm getting on here early, so i can find out the places that i should avoid.

I'll be in SouthEast Asia beginning of 2005, so I don't think I'll be joining you.

However I did want to comment on South America. SA is beautiful. The people are friendly, helpful, and hospitable. If you're concerned on where to go, check out the State Department's website for travel restrictions. I would bet there are far more restrictons on travel to SEAsian nations than South America. I loved Chile and I had some interesting/fun friends from Bolivia, and my best friend is dating a guy from El Salvador (great surfing there). My dad has hiked Peru and done business in Brazil. I don't think you have any reason to worry, with the possible exception of Columbia.

Don't forget your immunizations and visas before going, especially to SEAsia. And plan to spend significant time in IndoChina/Thailand, as the transportation is slow and often doesn't run daily.

Good luck! Have fun!

yeah, i've heard mostly good things about South America from people that have actually been there (that's why i'm going), but when i mention where i'm going to other people i know they start going on about how dangerous it is. So, to those that have been there, is South America really a dangerous place????

Hi WR,

I just got back from a 5 week trip to SE asia and Japan. I'm looking to head out to Central America, Cuba, and South America at the end of this year (anywhere from November 2005 to Feb 2006). I'm working full-time right now to fund this trip, so I'm still getting my travel plans together. Let me know if you will be in the SA area around that time...and if you want any specific advice about SE asia/Japan. Where exactly are you headed off to on this journey?

Oh, does anyone know if ppl from the msg boards can email me? Because I have no idea how to check my messages.

If you want to travel South east asia Thai Laos Cambodia Burmar(myanmar) Vietnam.
you may get some information or buddy from khao-san road area Bangkok Thailand, It is the center for backpacker, but don't trust the local ,because among the good man ,there is some bad man .
