I will be headin out to the Ouchita Trail in July. I am lookin' for a partner to hike it with. This Trail is 223 miles long, and it goes from beginner to advanced in some areas, overall it is a moderate trail. There is little water sources on trail, so be prepared to carry at least 3 liters. There is a lodge (queen wilhemina state park) that we will pass and that i would like to stay at, so you should also bring bankcard/credit card (not cash) I would like to take a scenic attitude with this trail, everything I have read says it is amazingly beautiful, so if you have bring cameras too. I am planning on hiking at a very moderate speed, 8 to 12 miles per day if that. Everyone who comes needs to take care of their own gear and supplies. Like I said I am not a guide and I will take no responsiblity over anything nor anyone, I would just like company , thats all.
I will be leaving the Talimina Trail Head on July 6th at about 11 am, so if you would like to take this opportunity and join me for this Backpacking trip, meet me there on that date at around that time and we will head out.
Trail starts in Oklahoma and ends in Arkansas , starts in Talimena State Park, Oklahoma and ends near Little Rock Arkansas.
Reply to this post to let me know if you'll be at trail head or not.

Hey angii,

That actually sounds like a bit of a challenge for these old bones, that´s why it sounds good! I love personal challenges and that would be right up my alley. If I were close to the trail, I think that I would actually attempt it with you  Good luck and let me know how it goes! ;)

Canadian Dude 06-26-2003 04:11 AM

Ya know what, i dunno how i found this site??? i think i found it through google.com....backpacking i think was my search...its all such a blur.....

Diorama 06-26-2003 12:52 PM

Yeah it's so weird all these canadians! aaaah. I think canadians travel more than americans. never taken an official poll. but I seemed to meet more canadians, british, aussies, kiwis, south africans, germans than americans. So mabye that's why?

angii 06-26-2003 09:12 PM

Dio that is so true man !! I only meet americans in america, hmmmmm ...
I do agree though, we canadians are all about traveling man, but think of this too, well we are able to save like about 300.00$ per month(and that is even on minimum wage!!) cause we do not have to pay that in medical insurance bills each month. And we also have to get two weeks vacation from a hourly job, it is an employee law up here. LOL you will like this one, also you see us more down her than we see you, because our airlines are equally fucked up, LOL your airlines are so cheap for you if you are travelling within the states, and lol ours are the exact opposite ( even with the exchange rate) it is cheaper for us to fly down there than it is to fly from one canadian place to another. It is too funny, LOL but now with all our new pot laws i am sure we will see more of you guys than ever >GRIN<
hahahahahahahaha
ang

travelpunk 06-27-2003 04:11 AM

Hahaha  That is wierd about your airlines. I bet that the first discount airliner that flies within Canada would be an instant hit! Southwest, Air Tran, Alaska, really makes it attractive for Americans to explore within our country. LA to Vegas RT for $60!
It´s true about a lot of Canadians traveling around. I see the flags sewn onto the backpacks all over Western Europe. Do they encourage that on your travel channels?
Oh and by the way, I stayed thoroughly entertained by watching a funny ass travel show, apparently one of the most popular tv shows in Canada, called The Tourist w/Rick Bronson. Funny as all hell

What new pot laws :o ?! http://members.aol.com/BStorm15/images/marijuana.jpg

Canadian Dude 06-27-2003 05:03 AM

There is a sense of pride when it comes to being Canadian, especially when travel'n over seas, there are a couple reasons, and I think the biggest one is, self identification, Canadians and Americans are just as similar and Aussies and Kiwi's, I think it is the need to be know for who you are, You can not travel abroad without being asked " Are you American", so it helps avoid any confusion. Canadians are know for being hospitable travlers, I read an artical in Time mag written by 2 Americans saying that they put Canadian Flags on there packs because Canadians are know as the "sweethearts" of the world, and they wanted to get laid,   B) . Canada is a commonweath country, and is know among the commonweath nations as a friend and as much as some don't like it, The Queen of England is our Queen aswell. So that is a factor.

Its kinda weird, when you travel in America you see flags everywhere, private homes, businesses, schools, buildings the is alot of nation pride with in the US..etc...but here in Canada, you don't really see them as much, no too many homes and and usally only big businesses, BUT when a Canadian leaves the country, there display the flag with pride???

I always display they flag, a sticker on my car, and a tattoo on my arm, I have always been proud. I don't mind being mistaken for American, because I love my Americans my brotha's and sista's...I consider it a compliment....

Canada is definitely a low-key country and it´s cool like that. Other than the SARS thing, I don´t really see or hear any news about your country. Over in Spain, I forgot to ask my students(who were always outspoken on their opinions about Americans), about what they thought about Canadians. It would´ve been interesting to hear their feedback and I´m certain it would´ve been favorable.

Do they have the death penalty in Canada? They don´t in Europe and everyone is against it. In Spain, if someone was convicted of, lets say mass murder, they would only get a maximum of 30 yrs in prison, but can get off early on good behavior. Whoa :o

Diorama 06-28-2003 06:47 PM

^yup that's like good ol' canada. no death penalities and really low prison sentences. it's shitty.

Canadian Dude 06-28-2003 11:57 PM

The only thing I don't love about being Canadian, out Prime minister is a
BA-FOON!!!!!!

I am going to squish your head......

See, this is the same guy!!!!!!

travelpunk 06-29-2003 03:42 AM

Yeah, he needs to grow some CAJONES!

Canadian Dude 06-29-2003 07:04 AM

No kidding, i don't wanna push my political views, but this guy can not make a firm dission on anything, he flip flops until days before the dission has to be made...It actually comical to watch...my favorite quote from our "leader" is

"A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof. And when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven."

—Prime Minister Jean Chrétien clarifying exactly what type of proof Canada needs;
