Hello All,
came accross this message board from another message board.

I'm making my way to Dublin for three months in October through a working holiday visa program and am TERRIFIED! Anyone leaving for Dublin around then too and want to share their Dublin experience?? Anyone there already that can use a friend? Any suggestions to offer?
Thx!!

Travelchick, Hi!
Thanks for your reply. I was thinking (well, I'm actually going to be booking my ticket tomorrow) of leaving on Oct 8. We should meet up, if you're willing to travel out there for around that time. It would be great to get a feel for the place with another newbie. In what part of Northern Ireland will you be staying? Are you a solo traveler as well?

If ye're going to the west ye can give me a bell and I'll show ye around Galway city. A trip to Ireland wouldn't be complete without a visit to the city of the tribes.

Just remember to bring your drinkin' shoes.

Sounds fantastic!
I met someone a while back on a working holiday visa from Galway and he had nothing but nice things to say. I should have kept in contact with him...would love to take a trip. How long of a travel is it from Dublin to Galway? Would love to make a trip to Belfast as well. Was planning a while back to spend New Year's in Belfast! That's the plan, but of course you never know what can happen... I think I'm super excited to be traveling alone as well, but sometimes I wonder what the hell I think I'm doing!!

You do have to go to Galway city to get a ferry over to the Aran Islands. Or you can get the plane from Gawlay airport but I don't recomend that those pilots are completely metal.

Galway is about 3 hours from Dublin by bus. 4 from Derry.

Well, it looks like I will have to leave on the 9th 'cause it's like $100 cheaper!
'Mental' I think that's my new favorite word. My Irish friend used to say that all of the time. I also like the way my friend from Cork says 'idiot' I'm looking more and more forward to this trip, but man am I rakin' up the $$$ and I haven't left as yet! MeTurk, what travels have you made? travelchick, are you flying directly to Northern Ireland? I was thinking of booking through flyzoom a flight from Toronto to London and then taking a Ryan Air flight from London to Dublin, but the travel agent doesn't recommend it 1) because of the luggage restrictions that Ryan Air has and 2) trying to coordinate a connecting flight...

Im flying into London first and then flying easyjet into Belfast. You could try Aer Lingus, they're not as strict baggage wise and they're still cheap. I find its cheapers to fly into london and then take a different flight out. But thats just me and you could always stay the night in london too if your worried about making your next flight. Hope that helped

Have ye tried flying into Shannon airport?

I've been nearly all over Europe Ren, I'm planning to finish off a little more of Europe next year by driving to Finland via Nurburg and Amsterdam.

Been to Vegas and New York aswell but only for a short time.

Well, to go straight from London to Shannon one way is about $500 not including taxes. I think I checked Aer Lingus for that quote (thanks Travelchick!). I got a bank letter in the mail yesterday showing the balance of one of my accounts as >$30, 000!!!!! The bank made a huge mistake and added an extra zero!! I'm going to hand in my visa stuff and purchase a tic going from T.O. to London (a lot cheaper in the long run, you're right Travelchick ) and then take an Aer Lingus flight from London to Dublin. I went to the bookstore and parused through a whole bunch of travel books with some other airline suggestions, so I'll research those as well.

Only been to Europe once - took a solo trip to Italy last year. One of the best experiences of my life! Misplaced my passport, though (a completely 'mental' thing to do) and had to stay an extra three days, so I went to Venice. I guess you would need to take a lot of vacations, MeTurk, looking as stressed out as you do

Actually it was Toronto to Shannon. I've booked my ticket already anyway from Toronto to London then Aer Lingus to Dublin. Everything's all paid and sent and now I'm just waiting for my visa I hope what's happened in London won't impede my getting my visa on time...
I have a question - what's Ireland like for concerts? I'm a big concert goer and I'm really looking forward to seeing some of my fav bands in the UK.
I'm sure we'll all meet up at some point or another, travelchick. How is your planning coming along?
I got an email from some girl who invited me to a get-together at Starbucks of all of the SWAP participants leaving late Sept, Oct from T.O. Hopefully I can meet some travel buddies/future housemates?
