Hi everyone,
I'm heading to Scotland (Edinburgh) through BUNAC at the end of May. Anyone else headed there or already experienced it?

Any funny stories, experiences or words of advice are more than welcome!

i'm very jealous! i was looking at doing that same thing but realized i didnt have the money to pay for housing when i was there! but edinbugh is awsome, my favorite city i think. it'll be full of festivals in the summer as well, so lots of people to meet. i actually didnt meet a lot of scottish while i was there though, lots of australians, and they all hang out in giant aussie packs. but dont be intimidated, they love to have fun with anyone, at least that was my experience. Um, go to st Giles Cathedral, its gorgeous.
And the castle of course, and really, it's just a super enjoyable city. free museums too! i'm going to try to get up to scotland this summer for a weekend if i have time and money. have soo much fun! keep us posted!

Thanks Astro! I think I read somewhere that Edinburgh is the least Scottish of Scottish cities!!! lol. I hope to spend a fair amount of time outside of Edinburgh while I'm there, soaking up local culture and probably some rain too...

Bunac is cool, but dont expect too much from them really. They're good for getting you the papers and thats about it.
Edinburgh is wonderful! But cold! So cold. Even in the summer I was freezing. (I love my long hot texas summers...) Pack something warm.

Edinburgh isn't cold...have you heard of and seen something called snow???jeez,it aint cold:P...i kno cold...hate living in Scotland...we're had 2 hot summery days here in gairloch, today and yesterday after god knows how much rain and wind, damn west :(

some advice for ya,in edinburgh,ok,go to the waverly train station and go to the service desk, and ask for a ticket to inverness, pay for it,then get on the right train at the right time, then when in inverness stay at the SYHA hostel there, then get the bus to gairloch from inverness at 5:20pm,from the bus statin, its the only bus to gairloch and then when you get in gairloch (bus arrives about 8-ish),go to the Millcroft Hotel and ask someone who works there where the Walker's live, then follow the directions and ask for me...Ryan...XD

ok ya could do that or the castle is ok,but remember what you said about it being the least scottish city,so think about places tourists dont go,you could do the simple things like go on the rides and go ice skating if the rink and rides are still there,i remember goin accross the bridge and goin up the hill to the old part of edinburgh, all the cobbles, and seein all the old architecture and how tall some of the buildings are considerin when they were built...mind-blowing,also theres the edinburgh dungeons, dont go there on your own ;-)

sorry for blabberin on a bit,but any advice is good advice...maybe...

Well I'm from New York (and lived in Texas for a while too!). It fell down into the 40's here last week, so I don't think I'll be too freezing but one never knows. Definitely packing some rain gear though, thanks Bellelass.

xtremefx, I take it I should add you to my list of important things to see in Scotland??? lol Castle.. check. Loch Ness... check... the Walker house... check.

Hey!

I just came across this website and I read your posting about doing BUNAC in Edinburgh! I am planning on doing it as of July 5th. Thats when I fly into Scotland. Holy shit I am so scared and I have no idea what I am getting myself into. how has it been? how the hell do you find an apt or job?

I noticed you have a brooklyn brewery sign as your icon. I live in williamsburg (well I will until the beginning of July) you from NY too?

so anyway... I'm really anxious about it but I am ready to get out of NY and experience something other than my crazy roommates and shitty jobs!

Do you have any advice for me?? Please? what should i pack? oh my god.... can i make it with only one backpack? help!
