Default Belize Help

Hi

I want to do an adventure (trekking, jungle, fishing, rafting, snorkling...) trip and am looking into Belize. Is there much of this there. I've seen some all inclusive trips online but they are put on by a company and I dont know how factual they all are.

Also I heard bad news about the knightlife in Belize. Is that just Belize city or all over.

Thanks

I lived in Belize for awhile until 2005. There is plenty of what you are looking for in Belize. I did a ton of the kind of adventure stuff you mentioned while I was there. You don't need to book that kind of stuff in advance either.

How long are you going for? You going alone? Whats your budget?

Belize City can be a little sketch at night, but if you are smart and avoid the worse areas its fine.

headn down with 3 others for 10 days. I'm not sure of exact budget yet or how much stuff costs. I'm hoping to not average more than $70 a day including rafting and all that. Is it possible?

Is the nightlife just sketchy or is it bad. Would I be able find bars/clubs or anything like that?

Also I cant seem to find a hostel online for under $45 a night. There has to be cheaper ones there right??

Thanks

With 3 people you will be fine going out in Belize City. There are plenty of bars and a few good clubs. There are certainly cheaper hostels than that. You don't need to book in advance either. You should be just fine with $70 a day. Look at the National Parks for great places to do adventure stuff. Blue Hole is amazing. You can do snorkeling easily by taking the boat to Caye Caulker and finding someone who leaves from there. Do rafting that includes caves, well worth it.

Any other questions?

My wife and I are flying into belize next week at the airport just outside of belize city. I hear there are some interesting cathedrals in Belize city, but other than that all i hear about is it's the most sketch city in the country so I'm considering just skipping it all together, but it also sounds like it's the country's connecting hub.

We're planning on spending a few days in Caye Caulker, but we also want to find some ruins to hike inland.

Are there any connections from the airport strait to some ruins to bypass belize city?

Is belize city worth seeing? It's only a 6-day trip so time may be an issue.

Good to hear we don't need to book hostels in advance. I had heard that before, but always get a tinge worried. I have bad memories of full hostels and cold nights in austria

Belize City can be a little sketchy, but not so much that you need to avoid it. It's an amazing city in it's own way as well. It is worth seeing, and then heading to other areas.

There are flights from Belize City to Belmopan for sure. The country is very small, so driving is also an option.

The Orange Walk area is awesome, and there are Mayan temples near by. The best site, IMO, is Xunantunich. Guanacaste National Park is a quick drive from Belize City, and a great place to explore the rain forest. Blue Hole National Park is further out, but unbelievable!

A hidden jewel is the town of Hopkins, on the Southern Coast. It's a little coastal paradise!

The Cayes (including Caye Caulker) are worth your time as well, but you won't need to be there long unless you want to hang out and relax.

Yep, Xunantunich (shoo-nan-too-neech) is the showpiece Mayan site in Belize. Not as big as Tikal (Guatemala), Copan (Honduras) or Chichen Itza (Mexico), but nice nonetheless...

I've been looking into Belize as well but in a break from previous trips, I'm aiming for a more relaxing style of a trip. How many days can I comfortably chill on Caye Caulker before I'd get bored? Are there any other small islands with nice hotels/hostels?

It depends on how easily you get bored Caye Caulker is gorgeous, but there is not much there. You can snorkel/scuba dive for days, and the island itself has all the basics, but that's about it. There are more developed Cayes in the area, but they are also more expensive.

A trip inland might be pretty relaxing - to the rain forest, or even better yet, the Southern coast down at Hopkins.
