That's always kind of been my fear. I have wanted to go there for years, mostly from stories from like the 30's and stuff liek that, but I always fear that by the time I do, it won't be the same. I just kind of see it becoming a tourist spot someday and it ruining the way i have it pictured in my mind.
I hope I get there before then...

I spent 9 days in Havana in July of 2005 on a good will rugby tour. the pictures are great and i recognize alot of th eplaces you have posted. Cuba is a fantastic place and the people are very nice.
It is by far one of the pooerest places you will see in the caribbean though as most people get by with almost nothing. they are a ha ppy people for not having much to look forward to each day when they get out of bed. when you get away from the central part of town you get a real vision of communist life as the buildings are all run down and dilapitated. the streets are dirty and full of trash in many areas.
i did enjoy the couple nights we spent in Chinatown though. it was quitea sight to see a china town in Havana. you have to see it to believe it but all teh buildings are in chinese style and the staff all wears traditionalchinese clothing. it was some of thebetter meals i had while i was there.
the food is marginal at best because of lack of cleanliness and refrigeration in alot of restaurants. stay away from the chicken and dont drink anything that comes with ice in it. you will get sick.
post back if you have more curiosity on Cuba. i will try to post some of the pics i took of Havana as well.
