I was going to post in the Where ya Going section, but it's a decision between different countries, so once again I'm going to plop myself comfortably down here in the first-timers section.

I'll be visiting family up in Seattle for a few days, and could probably extend my trip for 3 or 4 days during late December. Which would you vets recommend is 1)safer 2)more interesting (I'm a first time traveller so both are relatively new to me). Seattle or Vancouver? Or is there anywhere else in Canada I should visit instead that I can get to cheaply from Seattle? Thanks very much for your help!

being that they are only 2 hours away from each other (driving) you could easily do both

let us know as well, there are a few of us in the area as well who love to meet-up

You could even just come up to Vancouver for a day, though it's worth a lot more time than that. As for ease of travel, safety etc. you can catch a bus up that drops you off right downtown so it can't be much easier than that, and both are equally safe, I'd say, applying all common sense precautions against back alleys at night and so forth, but perfectly fine and pretty at Christmastime, too. Might want to ski Grouse Mountain one day - or evening - if that sort of thing floats your boat. It's also accessible by public bus, and you can rent gear there, so no worries about toting stuff around.

Shame to be in this part of the world and not visit Vancouver.

I live in Seattle and I vote for both! Going up to Vancouver is easy. Just be sure to bring your passport. I've gone up just for a day trip several times, but I'd recommend trying to stay a night or two. There's no reason to pick one over the other, you can have the best of both worlds.

Forgot that I'm still going to be 17. The hostels won't take me.

Thanks for all the help, guys.

Sorry to hear that. Who do you plan on travelling with? Or is it just a solo thing?

Try couchsurfing.com if the hostels won't take you.

It's just a solo thing (clutches childhood teddy bear). I can probably do it in April during spring break instead. And thanks for the link, whereshegoes. I'll check it out!
